Job description
The
Meter Reading Supervisor is responsible for the coordination of all meter reading activities throughout the Sanitary District.
Essential Functions
- Schedules, assigns and inspects daily meter reading workloads
- Monitors Meter Reading schedules, makes adjustments when needed
Reviews work completed by Meter Readers to assure accurate and timely reading and billing of meters
Approves time sheets and leave requests
Performs 1st level performance reviews
Reviews and completes necessary reports and spreadsheets to assure evaluation of employees
Performs monthly safety and quality assurance inspections on Meter Readers to assure adherence to applicable policies and procedures
Assists crews with difficult assignments or special projects
Receives and investigates complaints relative to problem meters, problem reading, and employee conduct
Coordinates minor maintenance type work including structure locates and adjusts
Assists Meter Reading Analysts with assignment of new meters to appropriate routes and re-sequencing of meters to assure accurate and efficient routing of meter reading
Controls Meter Reading material stock inventory for Unit operation
Monitors and controls material stock inventory and equipment on each vehicle
Purchases and maintains tools and equipment as needed
Ensures proper maintenance and handling of WSSC Water vehicles assigned to unit
Assists in preparation of any necessary purchase requisitions for approval
Participates in scheduling, interviews and selection of applicants for position vacancies under Division, Union, and HRD guidelines as applicable
Provides first line training to Meter Readers and assists with Meter Reading Analyst training
Communicates new policies and procedures to assigned staff
Monitors and ensures that Meter Readers are in compliance with all WSSC Water safety procedures
Investigates vehicle accidents, work injuries, and breeches of discipline and makes recommendations
Prepares written reports and evaluations
Conducts staff meetings
Works with various Sections outside of Meter Reading to meet WSSC Water needs
Does necessary fieldwork to help maintain meter reading schedule and provide excellent customer service as necessary
Drives a vehicle to conduct WSSC Water business
Other Functions
- May act as Section Manager as necessary
- Performs other related duties as assigned
Work Environment And Physical Demands
Must be capable of walking 6 to 10 miles per day under all weather conditions.
Required Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities
- Knowledge of WSSC Water meter reading
- Knowledge of WSSC Water operating procedures for Customer Relations, Utility Services Meter Sections
Familiarity with ordering procedures for Materials & Services
Knowledge of the operation of water meters
Familiarity with the repair and installation of small meters
Good knowledge of the geographic area of Prince George’s and Montgomery Counties
Computer literate with working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications (especially Word and Excel) and the Customer Service Information System
Ability to learn and retain processes effectively
Ability to plan and make effective work schedules
Ability to keep accurate records; ability to instruct and train others
Ability to work effectively, tactfully, and courteously with employees, other Sections, and the general public
Ability to follow verbal and written instructions or directions
Ability to identify and resolve potential problems
Minimum Education, Experience Requirements
- High School diploma or equivalent
- 5+ years experience in the area of meter reading, meter service or meter maintenance
