We are a private non-profit committed to doing all we can in the fight against poverty. Our legacy goes back to the 1960's and we manage over a dozen programs designed to help those who need it most. The Summer Food Service Program (SFSP) helps provide meals to children who typically rely on free and reduced lunch options during the school year. This program allows them to continue receiving meals throughout the summer while school is out and focus on what kids ought to, a fun summer vacation.
You'll join a team of talented and passionate people who are motivated to make our community as strong and resilient as possible. While this program runs only through the summer, there is always potential to transfer to a year round program in the fall if desired.
Position Summary : The Kitchen Assistant & Transporter assists the Summer Food Service Program (SFSP) cook in the preparation of meals for SFSP sites in the corresponding community. Responsible for transporting and distributing meals to SFSP sites.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities :
1. Assists cook with meal preparation for the SFSP; follows the provided menu with no alteration, unless approved by the SFSP Program Manager. Prepares all meals following the provided quantity necessary for food recipes and program guidelines.
2. Maintains an understanding of USDA requirements.
3. Maintains sanitary food practices in accordance with state and local requirements.
4. Communicates the daily participants count between the summer camps and and the kitchen.
5. Ensures cleanliness of the kitchen, refrigerators, freezers, stoves and ovens. All cleaning must be performed on a routine basis as well as "as needed."
6. Transports meals to sites prior to meal service.
7. Completes meal count sheets for SFSP sites.
8. Performs additional duties as assigned.
Requirements
Qualifications Needed for Position:
Experience and Skill Requirements: The following experience and skills are considered essential
- Ability to stand for extended periods of time.
- Ability to lift 50 pounds.
- Six months of prior experience in quantity food preparation, state sanitary regulations, quantity food purchasing and inventory handling preferred.
- Ability to work cooperatively with agency staff, volunteers, school and recreation staff.
- Transportation
Education Requirements:
High school diploma or equivalent.
