- Position: Staff Support Tech - Resource
- Location: Glenbrook Hospital
- Full Time/Part Time: Resource, as needed
- Hours: Nights, rotating Weekends.
- License/Certification: Current BLS/CPR certification (for the Healthcare Provider). If not current or does not have certification, required to be obtained within 6 months of hire
- Education: High School Diploma or equivalent preferred
- Certification: N/A
- Experience: No previous experience required
- Skills:
- Responds to the immediate needs of the patient by answering patient call lights promptly and courteously.
- As directed, by RN, makes hourly or more frequent rounds on patients for safety, comfort, and meeting patients’ needs/requests
- Positions, lifts, transfers, and ambulates patients as directed by the RN; use of Safe Patient Handling equipment
- Assist with setting up meals for patients and ordering meals
- Keeps patient rooms tidy, refreshes patient’s linen as need, removes unnecessary equipment and linen
- Assists patient with simple hygiene/comfort measures such as washing hands/face and oral care
- As directed by the RN, transports patient to other departments or when patient being discharge
- When directed by the RN, remains with the patient continuously for patient safety.
- Handles infectious waste and linen according to established hospital procedure
- Patient & Visitor Interactions /Customer Service/Hourly Rounding: In this role, the SST will interact with patients and visitors, answering patient call lights, answering phones, assisting visitors within the facility. Assisting the staff in hourly rounding expectations will be a key function of patient safety.
- Patient Safe Handling/Ambulation/Repositioning: In this role, the SST will learn patient safe handling skills to allow the SST to assist in the ambulation of patents and to be able to assist the nursing staff in the transferring, lifting and /or repositioning of patient utilizing Safe Patient Handling equipment.
- Basic Nursing Care- ADLs: In this role, the SST will provide basic care for the patient to include bed making, oral hygiene, bathing and assist with meal set up and/or feeding.
- Admission/Discharge/Transfers: In this role, the SST will assist with room set up, welcoming of new patients/ room orientation, discharging and/or transfer of patients.
- Coverage for Unit Concierge: In this role, the SST will support the nursing team by providing coverage as needed for the Unit Concierge which will include answering phones and limited EPIC access to assist with the admission/discharge/transfer of patients.
- Observer: In this role, the SST may be asked by the Registered Nurse to remain with a patient as a means to keep the patient safe.
- Department Specific Tasks: In this role, the SST will support the nursing team by indirect patient care activities such as restocking equipment/linens, cleaning equipment etc. These indirect patient care activities are identified in each nursing department
