About Us:
Savannah River National Laboratory (SRNL) is a multi-program laboratory applying state of the art science and practical, high-value, cost-effective solutions to complex technical problems to protect the nation. Located at the U.S. Department of Energy’s (DOE) Savannah River Site (SRS) in Aiken SC, the laboratory develops and deploys innovative technologies to address some of the nation’s environmental, energy, and national security challenges.

Roles & Responsibilities:
The Postdoctoral Research Associate positions (5) are designed for the next generation of engineers/scientists who will excel in the application of fundamental science and engineering.

The positions will require interaction with professional colleagues inside and outside of the Laboratory.

Postdoctoral researchers are provided an exciting learning environment to develop into the next generation of professional scientists and engineers, explore basic science and the unknown, and make impactful discoveries.

Successful candidates will have: Critical thinking skills, data analysis skills and a demonstrated ability to integrate these skills into effective experimental design, execution and reporting. Capability to scope technical tasks and develop creative solutions.

Ability to effectively communicate (verbal & written) technical results. Ability to demonstrate their scientific productivity through peer-reviewed publications. Ability to demonstrate their capacity for advanced research approaches to solve complex problems.

Willingness to work on a team dedicated to scientific discovery and its application to some of the most challenging problems facing our nation.

Other Duties:
Conduct professional research after the completion of doctoral studies to pursue additional research or training and pursue a career in research and development at SRNL.

Fields of Study/Capabilities include but not limited to: nuclear engineering, chemistry, nuclear physics, radiochemistry, electrical engineering, computer engineering, biogeochemistry, environmental sciences, advanced modeling and simulation, statistics, mathematics, mass spectroscopy, ultrafast laser spectroscopy, hydrodynamics and fluid modeling, fluid mechanics, artificial intelligence, data analytics, molecular dynamics, machine learning, metal hydrides, energy storage, biofuels, water quality, aerosol science, additive manufacturing, atmospheric modeling, and meteorology.

Individuals must have completed all requirements for their PhD by the start of employment.

The Post-Doctoral Research Associate positions are fixed term assignments within the company and benefits eligible.

Basic Education Qualifications

PhD in STEM related discipline, and other degrees applicable to an R&D environment obtained in the last three years or PhD students with expected completion dates within the next 12 months.

Other Required Qualifications

Proof of complete COVID-19 vaccination or approved exemption authorization will be required for employment at SRNL. Must be able to obtain and maintain a DOE security clearance.

Preferred Qualifications

Candidate must understand and apply advanced knowledge of discipline's standard theories, concepts, principles and techniques; and have working knowledge of standard engineering/scientific practices and applications.
