Job description
Under the general supervision of the laboratory Principal Investigator and the Assistant Adjunct Professor, the SRA major functions will be to evaluate targeted genome editing in hematopoietic cells. The role will involve independent research on the use of site-specific nucleases, base editors and other techniques to directly modify the human genome in hematopoietic stem cells. The SRA will also be responsible for sharing oversight of one to two SRA lab members, as well as the research performed by graduate or undergraduate students and other trainees.Percentage of Time:

Required/Preferred
1. Master's degree or PhD in Biological Sciences.
Preferred
2. Minimum three years of experience in tissue culture procedures for both cell lines and stem cells; and gene modification techniques in cell lines and primary cells, and molecular analyses.

3. Ability to work both independently and as part of a team and to establish and maintain cooperative working conditions and relationships with other staff members and students.

4. Ability to drive projects and carry out experiments and analysis with minimal supervision.

5. Knowledge of sterile techniques used in tissue culture.

6. Demonstrated skill with tissue culture procedures for multiple cell types: both cell lines and hematopoietic stem cells.

7. Strong skills in computing cell concentrations, solution preparation, and other needed mathematical calculations.

8. Experience with preparing, running, and analyzing cell samples by flow cytometry. Experience with Diva software highly desired.

9. Advanced molecular biology techniques. Skills in PCR, DNA and RNA isolation.

10. Experience in molecular cloning.

11. Good communication skills (written, oral) to oversee SRAs and trainees, maintain lab protocols, notebooks, and to prepare and make research presentations in lab meetings.

12. Organizational skills with strong attention to detail and flexibility to manage multiple tasks with competing deadlines.

13. Knowledge of laboratory safety procedures associated with the handling and disposal of chemicals and chemical waste, and biohazards and biohazardous waste.

14. Strong organization skills to maintain detailed laboratory protocols, ordering information, and inventories of reagents.

15. Maintain a flexible schedule to accommodate non-customary timing constraints of experiments. Ability to work occasional evenings and weekends.
