Wright Public Entity serves as a management company providing claims administration, risk management & loss control, underwriting & marketing, and client services in New York for the NY Schools Insurance Reciprocal (NYSIR: ‘A’ rated by Best), NY Municipal Insurance Reciprocal (NYMIR: ‘A-’ rated by Best) and Statewide Schools Health Plan. We also act as a TPA for Workers Compensation for various self-insured schools & municipalities in New York.
Wright Public Entity has an opening for a Senior Risk Control Specialist in Western NY. The successful candidate will provide loss control and risk management services to members of the NY Schools Insurance Reciprocal in WNY and the Southern Tier. These services include but are not limited to: routine inspections; in-district training; member consultations; attending Subscriber meetings; conducting member seminars; performing loss analysis and other special projects.
Responsibilities include performing inspections, risk assessments and evaluations; attending safety committees; arranging regional seminars and conducting member training. Overnight travel is required.
The primary responsibility for this position is to provide consultation, inspections and training with member school districts and BOCES. Risk Management activities include, but are not limited to, the following:

Risk Management Consultations

Conducting surveys of client operations to evaluate risks (property, general liability and auto) and the control measures in place.

Employment practices policies and procedures review.

In-district training for employees.

Conducting Regional Seminars.

Participating in Subscriber Meetings.

Attend and present at Association Meetings.
-
Writing related articles for Risk Management Bulletins and Association Publications.

Participate in Webinars for Subscriber districts and BOCES.

Conduct on-site surveys to perform risk assessments, evaluate exposures to loss, deliver service, and conduct training for Subscribers.

Provide new business prospect reports and marketing support for potential new business school districts or BOCES.

Plan, develop and recommend risk control services for Subscribers.

Develop and implement with minimum oversight, the plans, programs and controls necessary to assure retention and growth.

Maintain open communications with members; insurance professionals; school attorneys; teammates and others.

Assist other internal departments or certified representatives and Subscribers in resolving technical questions regarding exposure assessment and risk mitigation.

Develop training programs and presentations for Subscribers regarding current issues and safety concerns.

Position Requirements:

Education: AA/BA/BS degree. Occupational/industrial safety, engineering, fire science or safety related degree preferred.

License/Certification/Designation: Attainment of Associate in Risk Management, (ARM); Associate in Risk Management for Public Entities, (ARM-P): Associate Safety Professional (ASP; or Certified Safety Professional, (CSP) desired. Additionally, the certification as a CPSI, (Certified Playground Safety Inspector) is preferred.

Experience: Qualified candidates will have at least 8 years of public sector safety or commercial risk control, safety, or fire protection experience.

Knowledge: Risk control policies, practices and procedures. Understand loss exposures, general safety, fire and life safety in an educational environment is preferred. Current knowledge of regulatory standards (e.g. OSHA, EPA, DOT) and both state and national codes (e.g. NFPA) and other standards and guidelines developed by Federal and/or State agencies is a plus.

Skills/Competencies: Strong organizational, time and technical skills are required to perform these tasks for a variety of Subscribers in a geographic region. Strong relationship, marketing and consulting skills required to interact with member employees; certified representatives; insurance company personnel; school district attorneys and Wright Public Entity teammates. Strong written and verbal communication skills, ability to operate a personal computer and other business equipment, prioritize work, and meet deadlines are all essential elements of the job.
