We are a growing organization seeking a talented Sr. Inspector to join our team as a pivotal member here at PBF Energy. This role is located at Torrance Refining Company in Torrance, CA.
Job Summary
The Sr. Inspector will provide technical support to the Operations, Maintenance and Technical Team in the inspection of fixed equipment (vessels, tanks, piping, etc.) to maintain overall mechanical integrity, refinery safety, and reliability. Routine duties include: gathering equipment data and information in the field, climbing to perform visual inspections and non-destructive testing, recording data and information to assure equipment histories are current, analyze inspection findings, developing recommendations, and preparing inspection reports. Individual will perform calculations (use of statistical methods) using corrosion data to determine inspection schedules, and equipment/piping remaining life.
Key Responsibilities
  • Perform internal and external inspections of equipment within area of responsibility.
  • Review the results of any internal or external visual inspections completed in area to ensure that any concerns are properly addressed.
  • Creates equipment inspection plans to ensure all inspection tasks in assigned areas are completed as scheduled to be in compliance.
  • Works with engineering to create and approve Inspections for maintenance and capital projects (i.e. Test Plans & Piping System Inspection and Repair (PSIR))
  • Reviews completed design and QA/QC documentation for equipment repairs/installations to ensure compliance with jurisdictional and company technical and quality requirements.
  • Works with the Mechanical and Materials Engineer to provided information for RBI and Fitness for Service evaluations.
  • Conducts periodic general walkthroughs in assigned units to maintain equipment condition familiarity and to identify any equipment conditions changes.
  • Provide updates in the asset history document for fixed equipment inclusive of what was found and how it was mitigated.
  • Provide support to UBT (Unit Business Team) and maintenance based on findings. Act on findings when a failure or near failure is identified.
  • Complete and sign off Leak Repair Forms and associated eMOC’s as needed.
  • Witness pressure tests for the area conducted in support of repairs or alterations.
  • Initiate IWR’s including findings and inspector recommended scope in Inspection Database (PCMS) and teamwork, as required. Close with appropriate comments all resolved IWR’s.
  • Regularly review all open IWRs in area and review with appropriate members of Unit Business Team (UBT).
  • Review and evergreen inspection database (PCMS) for area of responsibility
Job Qualifications
  • High School Diploma or equivalent required
  • A strong understanding of and/or certification in applicable codes, including, but not limited to: ASME Section VIII, B31.3, API 510, API 570 and API 653
  • 5+ years of experience as a fixed equipment inspector or NDE Technician within a refinery setting
  • Knowledge of API 580/581 preferred
  • ASNT SNT TC 1A certifications or verifiable NDE experience required
  • Knowledge of PT/MT/UT
  • Excellent problem-solving skills
  • Strong communication skills (verbal and written)
  • Ability to manage a large workload and changing priorities
  • Working knowledge of industry codes and company standards

The salary range for this position is $84,617.04- $142,857.98. The compensation range listed in this posting is in compliance with applicable state law. Factors such as scope and responsibilities of the position, candidate’s work experience, education/training, job-related skills and internal peer equity will be considered in determining the selected candidate’s compensation. Salaries at the time of hire are typically in the lower to middle portion of the above range in order to provide the opportunity to reflect future performance-based increases. In addition to salary, PBF offers a comprehensive and generous benefits package.
