Position Title: Sr Corporate Banking Underwriter

SUMMARY:

The Senior Corporate Banking Underwriter is responsible for complete underwriting of new corporate and structured finance credit requests. These requests will routinely involve large, complex credits and the incumbent must possess the skills and experience necessary to properly evaluate the risks and structure deals in conjunction with the relationship manager and credit officer. The incumbent is responsible for a wide range of duties including, but not limited to the following:

JOB REQUIREMENTS:

• Prefer 4-year business degree with concentration in finance and/or accounting; a graduate degree is desirable
• Prefer 5-7 years of work experience in credit analysis and underwriting
• Should have some experience as a lender/relationship manager
• Must possess a proficient knowledge of credit policy and loan documentation issues
• Must possess a knowledge of various loan structures and have the ability to apply this knowledge in the formulation of sound credit recommendations
• Must have excellent verbal and written communication skills
• Must be able to write clearly, concisely and efficiently
• Must understand and work effectively within the credit culture of the company
• Must allocate time effectively and prioritize work to meet timelines
• Must have experience spreading financial statements utilizing Moody’s or Baker Hill
• Must be familiar with external data resources such as Capital IQ, etc.
• Must demonstrate ability to think and act independently with little or no direct supervision
• Participate in all required compliance training, including Bank Secrecy Act/anti-money laundering training, as well as internal and external training programs, online training, meetings, and seminars/conferences, etc.

JOB FUNCTIONS:

• Work with corporate banking RMs to manage all aspects of the credit underwriting process, loan approval and closing processes
• On an as needed basis, be able to support the Portfolio Management function including covenant compliance, annual reviews, renewals, borrowing base issues, etc.
• Must understand the regulatory environment of HLTs and familiar with analyzing business valuations.
• Actively participate and assist in all aspects of the loan process including joint calling, underwriting and preparation of credit approval packages
• Firm understanding and experience in dealing with Loan Documentation
• Must be able to spread, analyze and interpret businesses and financial statements
• Must be able to identify strengths and weaknesses of individual requests and make recommendations to address and mitigate perceived risks
• Must prepare and be able to present credit analysis packages through the credit approval chain with limited supervision
• Must be able to make calls on companies, sponsors and investment bankers with senior bankers
• Serves as the initial deal screen to determine loan viability
• Research company and industry
• Prepare credit analysis packages
• Make credit recommendations
• Interact with senior executives in senior credit committee
• Communicate with corporate borrowers to obtain pertinent information for rendering recommendations
• Address compliance issues with management and customers; evaluate and recommend changes to covenants, pricing, credit agreement terms, etc.
• Complete any special project work
