Special Day Class (SDC) Teacher (Moderate/Severe)(2022-2023 school year)
Job description
Teaches the content core curriculum utilizing the State Framework, the state adopted standards for special education, and the District curriculum adopted by the Board of Trustees
Diagnoses and evaluates individual students, prepares a planned program utilizing individual or small group instruction to adapt the curriculum to the needs of each student
Provides planned learning experiences in all areas of the core curriculum in participation with parents and prepares
Individualized Educational Plans (I.E.P.) that includes short-term and long-term goals
Participates in the annual review of the I.E.P.’s of all program participants
Describes to the classroom teacher the pupils impairment and suggests classroom activities which would assist and
support student needs under inclusion
Provides resource and other special materials for the classroom teacher upon request
Meets with mild/moderate impaired children on a scheduled basis and provides instruction in small groups or on an
individual basis
Consults with the school nurse and school psychologist regarding children with severe handicaps
Maintains professional competence through participation in in-service education activities provided by the District and
in voluntary self-growth
Participates in faculty meetings and committees
Maintains student files current and up to date with samples of student work
Observes and makes ongoing evaluation of students’ academic and social growth, keeps appropriate records, prepares progress reports, and communicates with parents on the individual student’s progress
Uses effective classroom and/or behavior management techniques to achieve a safe and functional learning atmosphere for all students. This includes creating appropriate room displays, bulletin boards, and/or interest/learning centers and providing a more structured token economy system when necessary
