The Role - Sourcing Specialist

Location: Hybrid - Houston or Dallas

FSLA - Exempt

Position Summary

The Sourcing Specialist drives procurement of materials in alignment with the sales and planning organizations. You will be responsible for driving competitive pricing and achieving best value for your site through market knowledge and price negotiations. You will execute sourcing and supply strategies for materials that match customer requirements, support our preferred and strategic supplier programs, drive material cost reductions and optimize the return on investment from our materials. You will manage a variety of sourcing activities, from single materials to large projects or RRP and continuous portfolio improvement. You will ensure compliance with company business policies and procedures, and all Export /Import regulations.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

For an assigned set of materials:

• Use Product and Market Knowledge. Possess and apply knowledge of product lines, product prices, and supply base

Understand supply market conditions and price drivers for packaging materials and suppliers
Develop relationship with suppliers in order to advance OPS as their preferred customer and obtain favorable terms and superior service

• Execute Quoting and Sourcing. Executes quotations and RFP to support sales proposals, planning requirements, or general margin improvement efforts on new and existing materials.

Support financial goals by negotiating and controlling product cost and supply chain costs such as lead times, freight terms and purchase quantity requirements for your portfolio of materials in a regular review cycle or as requested by sales and supply chain
Compare quote results and make independent decisions on sources of supply within established policy, customer specifications, service level agreements, margin targets and inventory performance standards.

• Award and Implement New Business. Finalize pricing and service level agreements with suppliers

Setup and maintain relevant master data for all pricing conditions and service level agreements for a specific material and supplier in the ERP system, such as in the Purchasing Information Record and plant-specific Material Master fields.
Communicate and act as liaison between sales and supply chain functions to ensure smooth implementation of new or transition of existing business
Maintains records of quotes, using ERP or other document system for later reference.

• Execute Supplier Management. Communicate performance expectations to suppliers and provide feedback on supplier performance to Strategic Procurement regarding supplier performance.

Identify opportunities to introduce new regional suppliers to the Strategic Supplier program
Monitor supplier performance to KPI related to sourcing and implement corrective actions as needed, participate in supplier reviews

• Maintain and Continuously Improve Data and Material Performance
• Maintain productivity standards for number of quotes completed per day, cycle time, average mark up and buy/quote ratio.

In the event of a price change proposal from supplier, review and approve/negotiate change, communicate to business users and maintain master data
Responds to invoice discrepancies resulting from material pricing issues

• Performs other duties and/or responsibilities as needed

Required Qualifications

Education and Experience:

• High School Diploma or equivalent required
• 3+ years of experience in purchasing, sourcing products
• 3+ years’ experience in customer service
• 3+ years of experience in a distribution environment.

*Any equivalent combination of related education and/or experience may be considered.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

• Experience sourcing products in both Janitorial and Food Service categories.
• The ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals.
• The ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
• The ability to speak effectively to co-workers as well as personnel for sub-contractors and customers.
• The ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions and decimals.
• Good computer skills.
• Travel may be up to 10%
• This position requires the ability to demonstrate the competencies in leadership, people development, change management, Intellectual Flexibility & technical acumen.

Preferred Qualifications

Education and Experience:

• Bachelor’s degree in related field
• 5+ years of experience in purchasing, sourcing products
• 5+ years’ experience in customer service
• 5+ years of experience in a distribution environment.
• Bilingual

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $69,000.00 - $77,000.00 per year
