Position Title:
Small Business Banker
Reports To: SVP - Director of Business Development

Work Locations: Richmond, Fredericksburg, Charlottesville, etc.

Position Purpose:

The small business banker will provide a full range of services to core small business customers with complex needs, provide exceptional customer service, and build relationships. This role will engage customers in conversations and share ways Blue Ridge Bank can facilitate their banking needs.

Responsibilities:

  • Handles relationship management activities with new and/or existing clients in a book of business to grow sales, revenue and market share with relevant sales goals. Typically works with clients with basic levels of risk and complexity of needs. Generally works with higher degree of supervision.
  • With direction, acquires and/or expands and retains client relationships to generate revenue and deepen share of wallet. Handles the origination, financial analysis, negotiation and documentation of credit and non-credit products and services.
  • Manages risk/return and drives quality for new and/or existing clients. Actively identifies and mitigates different types of risk, such as regulatory, reputational, operational and credit risks.
  • Focuses on client opportunities by providing ideas and insights based on an understanding of the client's needs and their financial well-being. Focuses on increasing client engagement and loyalty.
  • Builds an effective network of internal and external relationships, such as community and industry relationships, to actively acquire new clients and/or expand existing clients and enhance the client experience. Focuses on bringing entire bank to the client by presenting the full range of BRB's products and services. Leverages reporting and sales tools to proactively identify and successfully convert sales opportunities.
  • As defined with the business, demonstrates ability to analyze, evaluate and mitigate credit risk by utilizing knowledge of credit fundamentals and internal credit policies.
  • Responsible for client needs and maintain a partnering relationship during engagements; includes influencing, communicating, presenting, facilitating, managing and developing others.
  • Responsible for implementing the strategies and techniques used to ensure that customers have a positive experience with the organization and its products and services at every touch point including analyzing situations fully and accurately and reaching productive decisions.
  • Responsible for effective communication to effectively transmit, receive, and accurately interpret ideas, information, and needs through the application of appropriate communication behaviors.
  • Responsible for identifying and engaging potential customers in the market.
  • Responsible for building relationships and create opportunities.
  • Responsible for planning, strategizing and targeting the right industries to create value propositions with impact.
  • Create value for the bank and its employees.
  • Applies knowledge of banking products and services to meet customer needs and enable them to achieve their financial goals.
  • Identifies prospecting approaches to identify potential customers and create opportunities to sell financial solutions and ideas to customers.
  • Responsible for advising, educating and engaging clients on a variety of technological tools and resources allowing them to explore solutions to achieve their goals and financial well being.

Requirements:

Education and Certifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in a relevant field.

Skills:

  • Three (3) or more years of relevant / direct industry experience.
  • Knowledge, insight, and understanding of business concepts, tools, and processes.
  • Knowledge of prospecting principles, processes and skills.
  • Prior customer service experience.
  • Strong computer skills relevant to Microsoft Office Suites (e.g., Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.).
  • Organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Strong decision-making/problem resolution skills.
  • Demonstrate strong analytical and math skills, organizational skills, and customer service skills.
  • Effective verbal and written skills to effectively communicate in the English language required.

Abilities:

  • Ability to learn bank programmed software.
  • Ability to build and maintain relationships with accounts while providing exceptional customer service.
  • Ability to work all branch hours, remote or in office, including weekend and evenings.
  • Ability to work within a team environment.
  • Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as procedure manuals, general business correspondence, and/or journals, or government regulations.
  • Ability to deal directly with the public, on the phone or face to face, following the Bank’s Customer Service Standards.
