Position Overview
The Shipping Associate will be primarily responsible for performing routine tasks such sample shipping, receiving, and general warehousing in support of Clinical Laboratories specimen transportation needs.
Essential Duties
Include, but are not limited to, the following:
  • Coordinates clinical specimen materials disposition such as blood, tissue blocks and slides or other sample types and or materials required to support clinical laboratories.
  • Prepares shipping documentation, package, and process materials to be shipped in a manner consistent with International Air Transportation Associate (IATA), Department of Transportation (DOT), and import and export customs regulations.
  • Collaborates with the Transportation Group to track shipments.
  • Capable of maintaining, stocking, tracking, and ordering various Raw, semi-finished goods and lab supplies for kit production and sample returns.
  • As needed, places signs for materials received, checks goods against packing slips and seeks direction when materials do not match or are damaged.
  • May be required to apply product labeling and maintain the records for received goods.
  • Responsible for completing daily shipments and verifying that all orders have been processed and picked up by transportation carriers.
  • Maintains own areas of work in a clean and orderly manner.
  • Executes work in a safe manner, including proper use of materials handling equipment and PPE requirements for laboratory related interactions.
  • Notifies management of observed hazardous conditions or unsafe practices.
  • Knowledgeable in the basic requirements for compliance in own area of work and complies with the company’s Quality Management System policies and procedures.
  • Participates as required in training on regulatory requirements.
  • Brings regulatory compliance questions/ issues to the attention of management.
  • Maintains up-to-date training records and ensuring training is complete prior to performing specific job functions.
  • Follows approved and effective procedures to perform specific job functions, and ensuring procedures accurately reflect activities being performed.

  • Supports and complies with the company’s Quality Management System policies and procedures.
  • Maintains regular and reliable attendance.
  • Ability to work nights and weekends.

  • Ability to work on a mobile device, tablet, or in front of a computer screen and/or perform typing for approximately 15% of a typical working day.
  • Ability to work seated for approximately 30% of a typical working day. Ability to work standing for approximately 55% of a typical working day.
  • Ability to lift up to 25 pounds for approximately 5% of a typical working day.
  • Ability to grasp with both hands; pinch with thumb and forefinger; turn with hand/arm; reach above shoulder height.
  • Ability to comply with any applicable personal protective equipment requirements.
  • May perform repetitious actions using various packing, shipping tools and equipment.
  • Ability to use near vision to view samples at close range.
  • Ability and means to travel 5% between local Exact Sciences locations.

Minimum Qualifications
  • High School Diploma or General Education Degree (GED).
  • Demonstrated experience in materials distribution (Shipping/Receiving/inventory).
  • Basic proficiency in Microsoft Office programs, such as: Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, OneNote.
  • Demonstrated ability to perform the essential duties of the position with or without accommodation.
  • Authorization to work in the United States without sponsorship.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Associates Degree in a field as outlined in the essential duties.
  • Experience handling human specimens; FFPE Blocks and Slides.
  • 1+ years of experience in import/export compliance.
  • 1+ years of experience in clinical logistics, or related field within the biopharmaceutical, biotechnology, pharmaceutical, research and development or clinical trial industry CRO.
  • Strong proficiency in Microsoft Excel.
  • Cold Chain UN-Packaging for shipping and storing requirements and FDA and USDA import requirements.
