This position may be located in the Augusta, Bangor, or Portland offices and will require some state-wide travel and occasional overnight stays.


Core Responsibilities:

As the Sexual Assault Forensic Examiner (SAFE) Program Coordinator you will help improve Maine’s response to sexual violence by supporting the SAFE program goals to: promote quality of and access to forensic medical/forensic care for victims of sexual violence wherever they seek support; promote appropriate and sustainable SAFE services across Maine; and, ensure the sustainability of the statewide SAFE program.

You will collaborate with healthcare providers, local sexual assault advocates, and other stakeholders as well as identify new and innovative partnerships to improve medical/forensic response to victims of sexual assault. You will plan and convene a multi-disciplinary team (MDT) to inform, implement, and evaluate SAFE Program statewide operations.

Specifically, you will:

  • Develop, organize, present, and oversee trainings.
  • Manage SAFE program training and certification database.
  • Provide technical assistance and serve as a resource regarding sexual assault and medical/forensic care.
  • Manage SAFE program contracts and budgets.
  • Monitor compliance of the SAFE program credentialing standards.
  • Support the efforts of the SAFE Advisory Board.
  • Identify national best practices regarding medical/forensic care of victims of sexual assault and develop programming to ensure Maine meets those standards.
  • Conduct on-going evaluation and assessment of the SAFE program.

Minimum Qualifications:

To qualify, you must be licensed as a Registered Nurse and in good standing in the State of Maine and have a minimum of four (4) years of progressively responsible experience in the field of nursing and/or delivering health care services. Preference will be given to those working in a community/public health setting that also have knowledge in the area of sexual violence and medical forensic examination care.

The background of well-qualified candidates should demonstrate the following competencies:


  • The ability to plan and conduct education and training sessions.
  • Experience in program planning and development, including the ability to work with stakeholders to set goals for program improvement; develop objectives and activities to meet those goals; and track progress metrics to ensure success.
  • Possess exceptional communication skills including the ability to prepare written reports, present program information to and work effectively with multiple stakeholders. Please provide a sample of your writing skills.

LICENSING/REGISTRATION/CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: You must be licensed as a Registered Nurse and in good standing in the State of Maine as issued by the State Board of Nursing.
