Role Summary

The person in this role will be responsible for designing Deep Neural Network algorithms and implementing software within the Machine Learning team for an autonomous vehicle (AV).

Key Responsibilities

• Design and implement scalable, robust and real-time software running ML models for perception and autonomous vehicle operation, and delivering to schedule.
• Use ML to reliably detect objects using on-vehicle cameras
• Train, retrain and optimize models and tune performance on hardware accelerators.
• Review literature and track industry and academic developments to select methods that fulfill the needs of our system.
• Lead the implementation of selected approaches along with providing inputs on choice of model architecture, parameters and metrics for validating system performance.
• Collaborate with multi-functional teams and break work down into system components to lead negotiations of their interfaces with the other stakeholders.
• Develop processes to own the entire life cycle of ML feature/s from training, deployment to the model release, KPIs and versioning.
• Mentor junior engineers and provide code/design reviews, technical documentation and process refinements.

Key Qualifications/Requirements

Education

• Master’s or higher degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Robotics or an equivalent field.

Experience

• 5+ years of experience working on applied camera-based ML with an emphasis on object detection, semantic segmentation, object tracking and scene understanding, preferably in a mobile robot or autonomous vehicle setting.
• Programming skills in C++ and Python, and experience with modern deep learning frameworks like Tensorflow or Pytorch along with detection algorithms like YOLO or R-CNN.
• Understanding of model quantization and runtime optimization tools like TensorRT, ONNX and working with ML accelerators.
• Desire to drive best practices in software development.
• Proven track record of developing new models; building end-to-end training/inference pipelines; and shipping computer vision products to industry.
• Experience with CUDA, ROS.
