Duties

As a Senior Research Analyst, you will be responsible for conducting research and in-depth data analysis while providing operational and performance reports in support of all DOL business programs and services. Performing research studies, data analysis, and providing reports completed by the Research and Analysis program will be part of your daily job duties. Utilizing considerable originality and independent judgment will be key to analysis activities in the role. It will also be important to be comfortable informing leadership of statewide policy development changes while facilitating programmatic, operational, and financial decision-making for the agency.

Some of what you will be doing:


  • Define the complex analytical research project.
  • Consult with agency management and other policy makers to determine the needs, goals, and objectives that model and frame business scenarios that impact business decisions and processes.
  • Provide critical information for the agency to formulate new policies and initiatives under the following research and analysis areas: public safety, customer-focused, operational efficiency, and other initiatives.
  • Study proposed policy and program changes to ascertain costs, equity, social desirability, and administrative feasibility and effectiveness.
  • Develop innovative and effective approaches to solve analytical problems and communicate results and methodologies.
  • Provide research and statistical service on a consulting basis by conferring with agency management on the application of statistical techniques of sampling and analysis to various problems to enable data-driven decisions.

Qualifications

What you will bring to the role:


  • Three (3) years of experience in analytical research in a policy agency, public or private research corporation, nonprofit research corporation or university research center.
  • Five (5) years of experience in collecting, analyzing, and interpreting quantitative and qualitative data, in preparing effective and accurate narrative, statistical, and graphical reports to communicate findings and recommendations.
  • Ability to dig deeper into the data to seek the insights and identify data trends.
  • Excellent Understanding of data sets; identifying data trends, inconsistencies, inaccuracies, or incomplete information for complex analytical topics.
  • Three (3) years of experience conducting quantitative policy-relevant research with large data sets.
  • An advanced degree in Statistics, Science, Mathematics, Computer Science, and/or a closely related field.
What will help set you apart:
  • Three (3) years of experience conducting sophisticated quantitative research of impact of programs, interventions, policy changes, and/or predictive analytics relevant to public safety, licensing, and regulation services.
  • Experience effectively organizing multiple assignments, sometimes of a complex nature or involving competing priorities, to produce work products that are accurate, thorough, and on time.
  • Expert SAS and SQL programming skills and recent use of these tools for statistical analysis and merging data sets (recent experience with R software package or STATA with the willingness to learn SAS may substitute).
  • Demonstrated data analysis experiences utilizing various tools. Expert knowledge in analyzing data and effective in the output of the data.
Ability to comprehend and explain the purposes of a project, the roles, and responsibilities of those performing the work, and the needs and desires of those who will receive the resulting products and services. Ability to create, establish, monitor, and measure work plans to advance work, and the ability to work with others to enhance and enable work plan implementation.
