Located in the heart of the Baltimore/Washington corridor, Prince George’s County borders Washington D.C. and is just 37 miles south of the city of Baltimore. Encompassing almost 500 square miles, with over 900,000 residents Prince George's County has an urban atmosphere that still manages to provide a scenic and peaceful place to live, work, and play.

Prince George's County Office of Central Services is seeking qualified applicants to fill Maintenance Services Attendant III, grade A-13, within its Facilities Operation and Management Division. This position may work in various County facilities, including correctional facilities.

This is lead/supervisory work within the skilled craft occupational category, which is characterized by the performance of skilled and manual work. The incumbent leads/supervises the work of a crew of skilled crafts and labor positions in the accomplishment of a wide variety of skilled and semi-skilled tasks in the trade occupations (e.g., plumbing, general carpentry, electrical, painting, etc.)

Work is performed under general supervision and evaluated by the Facilities Maintenance Supervisor in accordance with departmental policies and regulations.

Examples of Work

• Performs and leads the preventive maintenance and repair of HVAC, plumbing, or electrical systems within county-owned and leased buildings.
• Reports all major equipment failures and problems.
• Reviews and response to work orders.
• Ensures assignments are completed on a timely basis and in accordance with Departmental rules and regulations.
• Monitors the use, operation, and inventory of equipment and supplies assigned to the crew.
• Establishes work plans and schedules for lower-level Maintenance Services Attendants and/or Trades Helpers as it relates to performing preventive maintenance and repair of HVAC, plumbing, or electrical systems.
• Ensures compliance with administrative rules, measures, and security regulations at all times; and,
• Willingly and cooperatively performs tasks and duties which may not be specifically listed in the class specification or position description, but which are within the general occupational category and responsibility level typically associated with the employee's class of work.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent (GED)

• Experience in the recognized trades; or any equivalent combination of experience, training, or education that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.

• Three (3) years of experience performing repair/maintenance work on plumbing, electrical, and HVAC system.

• One (1) year of lead/supervisory level experience.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT: Upon selection, the candidate must:

• Must maintain a valid Driver's license with six (6) points or less.
• Be willing to respond to emergency service calls on a 24-hour basis to assist other trade positions.
• Wear required safety equipment and uniforms while on duty.
• Must pass a physical examination.
• Meet all training and performance standards and demonstrate proficiency as required by the agency.
• Wear and use agency protective apparel and equipment in the performance of their assigned duties.
• Participate as an "Essential" employee in the department's snow and ice control program and other emergency or special activities as assigned.

DURATION OF ELIGIBILITY: Candidates will be selected from a temporary register of eligible candidates, which will become effective approximately four (4) weeks after the closing date. Once a selection has been made, the register will expire.
