THIS IS A PROMOTIONAL OPPORTUNITY OPEN TO CURRENT, REGULAR COUNTY OF NEVADA EMLOYEES WHO HAVE COMPLETED 12 MONTHS OF SATISFACTORY PROBATIONARY SERVICE.

The District Attorney’s Office is seeking a Senior Legal Secretary dedicated to the criminal justice system and the public they serve.

This position will supplement the dynamic and experienced administrative support personnel within our office. The Senior Legal Secretary will support the prosecution of cases in Nevada City and the Truckee Offices that are received from the state and local law enforcement agencies in Nevada County. There is coordination and collaboration with Justice Partners including Probation, Nevada County Superior Court, Public Defender and all Nevada County Law Enforcement Agencies.

As a Senior Legal Secretary you will will support complex cases including homicides and sexual assault. This individual train others on processes that require a more extensive understanding including extraditions, out of state subpoenas, and a variety of civil cases. Other responsibilities will be running database reports to ensure the quality of entries are accurate and complete, time tracking for grants is up to date, management of the electronic subpoena processes, DOJ compliance and resolution of charge code issues.

The ideal candidate must be proficient in the use of technology, as the position is focused on electronic information exchanges with information to and from the Superior Court, body cam video discovery, criminal history retrievals and generation of documents in the case management system. Knowledge of legal terminology and procedures and administrative practices are key to the position.

The individual in this position must have the ability to research, interpret and apply civil law and procedure. Train and present materials to internal employees and external partners. Be comfortable with leadership and helping to create useful improvements in workflow. In addition to having the ability to assist in identifying, describing and documenting data dependencies and discrepancies. The position will also assist with Victim Restitution and needs knowledge of basic accounting skills.

Education and Experience Required

Completion of the twelfth grade AND two years of responsible legal secretarial and staff support experience comparable to the level of a Legal Secretary II with the County of Nevada.


Licenses and Certificates

Possession of a valid driver's license within 30 days of hire. Typing at a net rate of 60 wpm.

Retirement
The County is a member of the CalPERS retirement system and provides the opportunity for voluntary contributions to a 457 deferred compensation account through Nationwide by way of pre-tax and Roth payroll deductions.
