We’re looking for a Senior Geohazard Geologist with direct Marine Geohazard experience to join our GEMS group located in Houston, Texas or Tucson, AZ. This position is well-suited for a talented, highly experienced individual who is interested in being a leader and contributing to innovative and challenging projects involving offshore drilling hazards, marine pipeline geohazards, site investigations, and offshore renewables.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Collaboration and mentoring are cornerstones of Geosyntec/GEMS’ culture. We operate under a sell-manage-do culture, and so we expect that you’d work on challenging technical projects while leveraging your existing knowledge and experience to help Geosyntec/GEMS expand its current practices and capabilities through business development and client management. You may also be asked to take on project management responsibilities, along with staff management and development, and mentoring tasks. You will be responsible for the completion of scientific evaluation of geophysical and geological data sets. Candidate is expected to have an excellent and knowledgeable understanding of commonly-used concepts, practices, and procedures for conducting offshore geohazard analyses for a wide range of infrastructures.
Some of the key responsibilities for this position include:
- Conduct standard/complex geologic evaluations and using geophysical data. Works on complex integrated projects interfacing with engineers, oceanographers, and other marine related scientist.
- Leads and directs the work of others.
- Load 3D and 2D data on computer workstations.
- Pick seismic horizons, attributes, etc., using workstation software and produce maps.
- Work with project manager/engineers to formulate a geologic model and a report outline for text completion.
- Directly responsible for report preparation, report review, project review.
- Adds his/her input on the model and relays to the team results and recommendations on path forward on projects. May lead the team on the project progression or may be part of a team lead by another.
- Communicates with project manager(s) on project progress, goals, concerns, and deadlines on a daily/weekly basis.
- Communicates fluently in meetings with clients, other contractor, and co-workers on progress goals, and deadlines of projects and can lead a project meeting.
- Communicates with support services staff on plan of action for figure and map development, timing, and deadlines.
- Mentors co-workers and is willing to assist in transfer of knowledge to lower level professionals.
- Ensures project budgets, deadlines, timelines, and quality of project deliverables are to those expected by Client.
- Prepares and assists Project Managers in marketing and proposal writing and establishing budgets and timing on projects.
Here are some other things you should know about this position:
- Training: After gaining experience of GEMS processes and procedures, the candidate will be expected to conduct and coordinate tasks and efforts related to any level or size project.
- Fieldwork: Up to 20% if candidate has previous experience or has desire to learn
- Overnight travel: Up to 20%

EDUCATION AND LICENSURE
- Bachelor’s degree or higher in geology, geosciences, or related field. (required)
- Advanced degree is preferred.
SKILLS, EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS
- At least 8 years directly relevant experience in a consulting environment; or equivalent combination of education and experience. (required)
- Working knowledge of IHS Kingdom. (required)
- Working knowledge of GIS, Subbottom Profiler, Side-Scan Sonar, Multi-Beam Bathymetry. (preferred)
- Direct experience with offshore development projects and offshore site-investigation techniques. (preferred)
- Ability to succeed in a fast-paced consulting environment, handling multiple project assignments, meeting strict deadlines, and traveling to client facilities as needed. (required)
- Excellent technical writing capabilities and communication skills. (required)
- Registration and/or membership in field related organizations highly recommended.
- Good verbal and written communication skills.
- Works well with others on all levels.
- Have a knowledgeable proficiency with computers and software.
