Job Description Summary

The Senior Additive Process Simulation Engineer will support development and industrialization of additive process simulation & compensation tools for manufacturing applications. In this role, you will have the opportunity to provide technical and program leadership to advance the state of the art of additive manufacturing planning tools as well as apply the technologies to enable creation of complex additive aerospace engine parts. This role will report through the Additive Technology Center (ATC) site manufacturing team and interface with global technical development teams and manufacturing facilities. The ATC develops and transitions new materials and manufacturing processes for prototype, test and production hardware used for critical New Product Introduction (NPI) programs.

Job Description

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Support Aerospace Additive Manufacturing shops by applying simulation and compensation toolsets to engine hardware.
  • Lead tool development and industrialization of simulation and compensation technologies in additive manufacturing
  • Interface with a cross functional-global team to create state of the art toolsets.
  • Remain current in the state of the art within own technical specialty for new products introduction activity, performance improvements, cost reductions and problem resolutions
  • Serve as a recognized leader in defining the state of the art in own technical specialty to anticipate, develop and apply technology to current and future business opportunities
  • Provide engineering support, within one’s specialty, to teams working on performance, cost reduction and quality initiatives
  • Leverage expertise to resolve problems during the manufacturing processes
  • Make recommendations after analysis of data using quality tools
  • Support development of physics-based models of manufacturing processes, materials, and systems.
  • Author and drive best practices for additive process simulation.

Required Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in Physics, Technology, Engineering or other related disciplines (Mechanical Design, Mechatronics, Mechanics of Materials, Physics, etc.) with at least 5 years of experience in Finite Element Modeling and Mechanical Analysis Strong oral and written communication skills; OR Bachelors Degree in Physics, Technology, Engineering or other related disciplines (Mechanical Design, Mechatronics, Mechanics of Materials, Physics, etc.) with at least 8 years of experience in Finite Element Modeling and Simulation

  • Heat Transfer
  • Material mechanics (e.g. fatigue, creep, vibration)
  • Fluid flow
  • Knowledge of additive process and equipment
  • Knowledge of statistical analysis, data analytics, and/or machine learning methods.
  • Expertise in the process-microstructure-property relationships and thermo-mechanical behavior of one or more major classes of structural materials (advanced alloys, and/or fiber-reinforced composites)
  • Programming skills and experience developing new material and process models
