Senior Azure SQL Server Database Architect (REMOTE)

Job Description:

  • Client is seeking a seeking a senior-level Azure SQL Server Database Architect with extensive knowledge and experience in SQL Server administration in Microsoft Azure and on-premises environments in support of client’s mission.
  • The candidate will manage all aspects of database administration in a single and clustering environment including but not limited to planning, installation, configuration, security configuration, backup and restore, optimization, and monitoring of SQL Server databases.
  • The candidate should also possess T-SQL development skill to maintain and optimize SSIS ETL processes, and SQL scripts for enhancing and automating security lockdown process.
  • They must demonstrate their technical expertise and experience by having personally performed these activities during their past projects and engagements rather than just participating on a team that was responsible for these activities.
  • The candidate should understand IT and software development life cycle processes to provide support in the Microsoft Azure Government.

Responsibilities:

  • Design and implement SQL Server (HA) solutions on Microsoft Azure environment. May also be requested to be involved with on-premise SQL Server
  • Experience in performing data migrations upgrades/modernizations, performance tuning on IaaS and PaaS Managed Instance and SQL Azure
  • Design and deploy Microsoft SQL PaaS solutions in Microsoft Azure Government.
  • Monitor and maintain database storage, and database health, performance, sustainability and security
  • Monitor and maintain SQL server Mirroring, Log shipping, backups, ETL SSIS jobs, and encryption
  • Provide SQL Server administration in MS SQL Server 2016, 2017 and/or 2019 and install SQL as IaaS on VMs
  • Partner with agency DBAs and solution teams to fully understand production requirements, configure Azure DB environments to meet those requirements and to assist in any data migration between environments.
  • Plan and implement database backup strategies and perform recovery in case of disaster
  • Respond to database and user problems, and provide guidance to junior level DBA
  • Analyze SQL query plans, suggest and implement solutions to support developers in the Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC)
  • Install, configure and upgrade database management systems and software including clustering environment
  • Refine and automate security lockdown processes using T-SQL and PowerShell DSC
  • Optimize Microsoft SQL Server for ETL, Data visualization, and Business Intelligence data analysis
  • Should be proficient in Business Analysis, Architecture Knowledge and Technical Solution Design.
  • Supports the configuration, deployment and execution of CI/CD pipelines in alignment with SDLC methodologies.
  • Knowledge of networking engineering including DNS, Active Directory, Firewall, Load balancers, etc.
  • Responsible for reviewing new EDW data integration requirements, and data analysis related to data sources, partnering with Data Architect and other Business Intelligence Developer team members.
  • Responsible for estimation, build and testing of Extract-Transform-Load (ETL) integrations and Extract-Load-Transform (ELT) integrations in support of data requirements, using tools in use by the Enterprise Data Services Team (SQL, SSIS, SQL Stored Procedures, Azure Data Factory - Databricks, Synapse).
  • Responsible for maintaining ETL/ELT code versions, using TFS and Azure Dev Ops, and migrating objects from non-Production to Production environments, as assigned.
  • Performs maintenance to ETL/ELT objects as data requirements change.
  • Troubleshoots ETL/ELT batch failures, determine root cause and performs steps to resolve the batch failures, including code remediation as needed.

Required Skills/Experience:

  • 4-year college degree or equivalent technical study Required 4 Years
  • Management and administration of enterprise level SQL databases in SQL Server 2016/2017/2019 Required 12 Years
  • Designing and deploying Azure SQL Database on PaaS solutions in MS Azure Government (MAG) Required 5 Years
  • SQL Server Integration Services (SSIS). Required 5 Years
  • PowerShell DSC Required 2 Years
  • MCSE Cloud Platform and Infrastructure Certification Highly desired
  • DP-300: Administering Microsoft Azure SQL Solutions Highly desired
  • Experience with Microsoft Azure Data Warehouse including Azure Data Factory, Data Warehouse Data Modeling in Azure and Azure Data Warehouse Support Desired
