Job description
When it comes to data, you love connecting the dots. But even more than connecting the dots, you love understanding the purpose of those dots and standardizing those dots, making sure the data is defined, refined, and aligned across different departments so that everything is streamlined for maximum efficiency and effectiveness.
That's the kind of Senior Accountant we're looking for at Vital Farms, because we're on a mission to change the food industry one ethically sourced ingredient at a time. While we're known for our pasture-raised eggs - giving our hens 108 square feet to roam and calling bullsh*t on terms like "cage-free" and "free range" - the truth is, we've got big plans to do so much more. That's because we give a cluck when it comes to the health of our animals, the health of our customers, and the health of our planet.
If you're as egg-cited about that mission as we are, then we think you're going to like the opportunities that come with being a Senior Accountant at Vital Farms. So let's dig in, shall we?
Reporting to the Senior Manager, Cost Accounting, the Senior Accountant is responsible for executing and continuously improving the company's accounting processes associated with our incredible farm partners. They will be a key business partner to our farm support team, operations, supply chain, and other internal stakeholders.

- Ensure the timely and accurate reporting of account balances associated with our farm partners, including receivables, payables, inventory, cost of goods sold and other general and administrative costs.
- Review/analyze monthly, quarterly, and annual financial performance and closing of the general ledger
- Prepare general ledger account reconciliations and variance explanations
- Interface with the Operations team regarding new business initiatives, including assessing the accounting treatment, reporting/regulatory disclosures, internal controls, and systems impacts
- Assist in the implementation of appropriate internal controls and process improvements
- Interact directly with the independent auditors to discuss and resolve accounting issues in a timely manner
What You Bring to the Table
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field
- 3+ years of experience in accounting, financial reporting, month end closing, and other accounting processes
- Preferred experience in Consumer Packaged Goods (CPG), Manufacturing, or Food Production & Distribution
- Experience using an Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) tool, preferably NetSuite
- Advanced proficiency in Excel
- Strong critical thinking & analytical skills as well as problem-solving skills
- Strong understanding of US GAAP
What We Bring to the Table
- A fast-paced, energetic, remote environment with passionate people who are leading a movement to bring ethically produced food to the table.
- Competitive pay and benefits (Medical, Dental, Vision, and Paid Parental Leave, just to name a few).
- Company-wide bonus program; when we succeed together, we celebrate together.
- Generous retirement contributions: 401(k) + 3% Contribution from Day 1.
- Free eggs, butter, and ghee, along with friends and family discounts.
- Fun team SWAG that will make you the talk of the town.
- Professional development opportunities and an amazing team dedicated to your growth.
