POSITION PURPOSE
The Security Specialist I is responsible for the administration and coordination of security matters affecting the Corporation. This includes providing support to the Security Specialist II and contracted security services.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
  • Provides support to the Manager of Security, Security Specialist II, and the Director of Life Safety and Security by answering phones, photocopying, maintaining, and filing records.
  • Provides support to all security-related incidents reported by internal and external customers.
  • Coordinates with all internal and external customers requesting security clearance to Corporation.
  • Collecting data for mandatory reporting of Security related incidents.
  • Assist with the performance of annual security assessments.
  • Provide support to the Security Manager in developing security policies and procedures.
  • Create and maintain spreadsheets and databases as required.
  • Responsible for keeping track of office supplies and equipment and placing orders as needed.
  • Provide research support for various projects and initiatives.
  • Tracks, organizes, and responds to customer comments generated for the company's Security Division.
  • Develops and updates PowerPoint presentations for employees within the Security and Training department.
  • Supports the daily needs of employees, managers, directors, and executives as requested.

OTHER FUNCTIONS
  • Support other departments as needed.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE
To perform this job successfully, an individual must have the following education and/or experience.
  • An associate degree in Criminal Justice, Business Management, Health Safety, or a related field is required; a bachelor's degree is preferred. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

  • Knowledge of applicable local, state, and federal safety laws governing public transit and the Corporation's operations.
  • Ability using a computer and related technology, including Microsoft Office, the internet, and spreadsheets and databases.
  • Ability to operate office equipment, including copiers, fax machines, and phones.
  • Written and verbal communication skills; strong active listening skills.
  • Ability to maintain strict confidentially of work performed.
  • Strong presentation skills and the ability to communicate to groups.
  • Ability to perform focused work with close attention to detail.
  • Ability to interact with internal and external constituents in person and through phone, e-mail, and written correspondence.
  • Basic mathematical abilities (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, percentages, ratios, and fractions).
  • Ability to process data.
  • Ability to prioritize, organize, and manage tasks and time effectively; flexibility is required.
  • A high level of confidentially and flexibility is required.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, deadline-oriented office environment.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to stand and sit for long periods, kneel/bend, and move throughout the workday, occasionally between departments and/or facilities.
  • Requires some exposure to machinery/equipment, excessive noise, extreme temperatures, fumes/odors, some hazardous materials, and dirt/dust.
  • Ability to travel during inclement weather.
  • Local travel may be required occasionally between various Corporation locations
