The Atlanta University Center Robert W. Woodruff Library supports the teaching and learning missions of four institutions of higher learning that comprise the world’s largest consortium of HBCUs; Clark Atlanta University, the Interdenominational Theological Center, Morehouse College, and Spelman College. Conveniently located and easily accessible to the campuses, the Woodruff Library is the center of the intellectual and social life at the Atlanta University Center.


Job Summary:

This position has a primary responsibility for the maintenance and training of the library’s security services systems; Serves as team lead and provides extended coverage of post and/or patrol officers as needed.


Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Schedule and maintain the Robert W. Woodruff Library fleet maintenance


  • Provide training of Fire alarm and Intrusion system to include maintenance scheduling and emergency contact


  • Provide training of CCTV system to include appropriate measure to insure systems are operational procedures


  • Assist as Team Lead as assigned by SS Manager in the absence of supervisor on annual leave, weekends and/ or evening shifts


  • Makes scheduled tours of buildings and grounds by vehicle or walking. Watches and reports irregularities such as fire hazards, leaking water pipes, and security doors left unlocked.


  • Emergency point of contact responds to emergency building alarm notices


  • Liaison as needed to Facility Department Manager


  • Reports to supervisor any unusual or suspicious condition detected. Completes preliminary investigation of complaints, disturbances, and thefts


  • Provides (written and oral) concise and factual reports of any investigative findings


  • Opens and locks doors, and gates at proper times based on building operating schedule and other specific procedural requirements.


  • Reports to supervisor any incidents of visitor, students, or employee actions that could result in injury or loss to company or employees


  • Provides first layer of Library customer service including, but not limited, handling patron service request and providing building directional layout


  • Operates two-way radio communication system following appropriate radio protocol


  • Greet guests of the library and check identification upon arrival. Monitor the calendar for any programs or events occurring at the library. (60%)


  • Patrol assigned areas within the library property. Provide information and assistance to guests. Enforce all policies, e.g. food and beverage policy. Secure doors after business hours. (20%)


  • Report daily activities and irregularities electronically to the Security Supervisor, such as equipment or property damage, theft, unauthorized personnel, etc. Respond to alarms and investigate disturbances around the library. Maintain the lost and found. (10%)


  • Monitor the alarm systems and answer the telephone in the security office. Manage keys for authorized personnel, staff, and visitors. (10%)


  • Perform other duties or special projects as required or as assigned.


  • Other duties and project work as assigned including, but not limited to, committee representation.


Educational/Training Requirements:


High School diploma/GED or vocational school diploma


Experience:


Minimum three (3) years of security experience

Minimum one (1) year of supervisory experience


Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:


  • Must be thorough, accurate and detail-oriented.
  • Ability to meet deadlines critical
  • Ability to work independently and to identify and initiate solutions for areas needing improvement
  • Ability to multi-task
  • Interpersonal and communication skills
  • Knowledge of safety codes, OSHA responsibilities, EPA requirements, and emergency preparedness
  • Ability to work evenings and weekends as required
  • Computer skills, including Microsoft Office
