The Opportunity.
The Trustees is looking for seasonal, part-time Farm Store Retail Associates to help further a welcoming and inviting environment in our farm store at Chestnut Hill Farm in Southborough, MA. Retail Associates promote Trustees grown vegetables, meat & poultry and value-added products as well as a carefully curated collection of other regional producers.
The Seasonal Retail Associate is a part-time, seasonal position (June -December). In this role, you will perform day-to-day operations, including: operating the cash register; processing online orders for pickup; selling Trustees memberships and event/program tickets; restocking products; maintaining store cleanliness; and providing exceptional customer service as an ambassador of the farm and the Trustees.
The ideal candidate will have a passion for food and cooking; sustainable agriculture and local farming; and community relationships and supporting small, local businesses. You model excellence in customer service and have experience contributing to engaging marketing and social media campaigns, with a general knowledge of online marketplaces and the ability to learn new computer systems. This position is highly independent and requires someone who is a self-starter. You must be at least 18 years of age with a minimum of one year of work experience and be able to consistently lift 40lbs & stand for long periods of time (at least 6 hours)
This is a seasonal, non-exempt, hourly position, with start date available immediately or in early June 2022.
In this role you will:
Create warm and welcoming shopping experience for Trustees visitors.
Assist in all aspects of store operations including but not limited to:
Regular cleaning and organizing in store spaces.
Restocking product which includes bagging and labeling fresh produce
Fronting and rotating inventory to ensure beautiful and well-tended display
Use of Point of Sale (POS) system to accurately and efficiently complete transactions while ensuring a precise store inventory.
Engage visitors in overall property experience. Invest in understanding the basic history of the farm property, maintain a comprehensive understanding of the work of The Trustees, answer questions regarding membership and other ways to stay connected.
Problem solve with the visitor experience at the center of any solution
Work independently and with others across the Trustees agriculture team
Other duties as assigned
Qualifications:
Strong interest in the work of The Trustees
Experience with POS systems & computers
Knowledge of basic food safety concepts. Prior customer service and food service experience (ServSafe certification) preferred
Math skills for handling and counting cash
Able to consistently lift 40lbs & stand for long periods of time (at least 6 hours)
An orientation towards organization and cleanliness (merchandising experience a plus).
Flexible work schedule. Saturdays & Sundays are required.
Able to work well with people in a team environment, and to communicate effectively both written and orally
Able to function and act both independently & as a team, plus make decisions & multitask under pressure.
Knowledge of agriculture, meat and dairy products preferred

Benefits and Compensation
This is a seasonal, non-exempt, hourly paid position. Salary ranges from $16-18 per hour, commensurate with experience and level of responsibility.
