Orange County Utilities provides water resources and solid waste recovery services to protect and enrich the lives of the citizens and guests of Orange County Florida. The Water Division ensures a safe and reliable water supply for all of Orange County Utilities’ customers.

The Water Division operates three regional water supply facilities and nine satellite water supply facilities that collectively produce approximately 60 million gallons per day. Water Division is seeking a highly qualified individual to fill the position of Scientist/Chemist. This position is part the Quality Assurance/Quality Control team responsible for ensuring the analytical work performed by the Orange County Utilities Central Laboratory meets QA/QC standards. This position will not consist of analytical work at the bench, but rather the review of the laboratory’s analytical work and processes.


Representative Duties


  • Reviews laboratory analytical testing packets from the four sections within the Laboratory (Wet Chemistry, Microbiology, Metals, and Organics) for quality assurance and accurate data entry into the LIMS.
  • Participates in Quality Assurance/Quality Control assessments (both internal and external) of the Laboratory for compliance with The NELAC Institute (TNI) standards.
  • Updates control limits and user profiles in LIMS based on instrument MDLs and Demonstration of Capabilities submitted by the analysts.
  • Interfaces with laboratory staff to develop standard operating procedures (SOPs) to ensure Laboratory compliance to the TNI Standards.
  • Stays well informed of current trends, laws, laboratory functions, literature, changes and improvements in laboratory analytical methods, and environmental regulations.
  • Maintains records and documentation to meet regulatory requirements.
  • Assists in report writing, data handling and other office tasks as directed.
  • Performs related work as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications


Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited institution in Chemistry, Biochemistry, Biology, Microbiology, Biomedical Sciences, Environmental Science or a closely related science field and 1 year of laboratory experience in chemical or microbiological analysis or an equivalent combination of education and experience.


Preferences


  • Experience in chemical, biochemical, and microbiological analysis work in a certified environment laboratory.
  • Experience with analytical equipment and laboratory record keeping.
  • Experience with performing QA/QC assessments following the 2016 TNI Standards
  • Computer experience, including working knowledge of spreadsheet and word processing programs.
  • Experience with Laboratory Information Systems (LIMS)

Hours per week: 40 Working hours: 7 am – 3:30 pm Monday – Friday
