Position Summary

We are seeking excellent candidates for the role of School Nurse .The primary purpose of the School Nurse is to support the learning experience of students by providing students and employees with first aid or evaluating their need for other forms of care and referring them to the appropriate resources. Responsible for collaborating in the development and implementation of health policies and procedures in support of the school’s mission and in compliance with federal, state and local laws. The School Nurse also consults with and provides advice to the administration, faculty, athletic staff, and others regarding students’ specific health issues which may impact their learning experience. This position also provides advice to senior administrators regarding health and safety issues as they relate to the school. The School Nurse is a solo position, operating from the Nurses’ Office. The School Nurse is responsible for maintaining updated files and running operations from the Nurses’ Office.Schools of the Sacred Heart is committed to an in-person teaching model and faculty and staff must be prepared to adhere to and support our Health and Safety Plan.

Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Obtain, maintain and update all student health records and histories. This may be supported by Athletics and Administrative Assistants as needed.

  • Meet with students, parents and teachers regarding health issues and concerns

  • Screen students for basic medical condition and symptom

  • Provide major or minor first aid to students and refer students to community agencies and clinics as required.

  • Supervise and implement the school medication policy, administering medication of various sorts including insulin (via pump), inhalers and oral medication in accordance with RN licensure.

  • Meet with teachers and administration or staff of school to review student's specific health issues that may impact the learning process or provide for student's safety and wellbeing

  • Assist faculty in providing information and resource material for classroom health education.

  • Enforce the School's protocol on blood-borne pathogens.

  • Grant temporary exemptions from PE to ill or injured students and monitor long-term medical exemptions and/or restrictions.

  • Document student and employee illnesses and accidents.

  • File required state reports.

  • Evaluate employees who incur work-related illnesses or injuries as needed, refer employees to outside medical providers and follow-up on injuries and claims in conjunction with the Human Resources Director.

  • Assist Human Resources Director with tracking completion of TB testing for new employees and ensure current employees meet state and school requirements for TB testing.

  • Supports the school’s policy regarding CPR/First Aid training, ensuring all employees are CPR certified every two years in collaboration with the Human Resources Director. In addition, keeps record of required maintenance of equipment that supports these functions and secures the appropriate maintenance of equipment each June through July.

  • Maintain an organized and professional environment in the school infirmary.

  • Additional duties as assigned by the President or Chief Financial Officer.

Qualifications

To be considered candidates should submit a resume and cover letter displaying their qualifications in the following areas:

  • RN License in California, School Nurse Certificate and Public Health Certificate are desirable.

  • Preferred 3 years of School Nurse experience, preferably in an independent school.

  • Must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills as well as a proficiency in applicable technology (i.e. Google Sheets & Documents, Microsoft applications, school databases, etc.), and dynamic interpersonal skills.

  • Candidates are expected to support and uphold the mission and vision of the Convent & Stuart Hall Athletic Program

  • Ability to appropriately manage highly confidential information.
