SUMMARY

Under general supervision, oversees and coordinates the planning, implementation, and review of school improvement efforts in the Minneapolis Pubic Schools; supports the implementation of the district’s ESSA grant; works directly with principals and associate superintendents to improve the performance of ESSA identified schools; provides lead support for the School Improvement Specialist team.

Essential duties and responsibilities may include, but are not limited to, the following:


  • Provides lead support for complex strategic projects and assignments.
  • Coordinates the work of the school improvement team, including check ins to support project completion.
  • Leads school improvement specialist team meetings and provides assignments.
  • Implements the school academic reform programs, special assignments, and educational programs in support of MPS goals; performs duties within scope of authority and training, and in compliance with MPS policies; duties may vary according to job assignment.
  • Provides training and professional development to team members to assist school administrators and leadership teams.
  • Provides direct support to ESSA identified schools in the creation and implementation of school improvement plans designed to increase outcomes for student groups identified by the State of Minnesota’s ESSA criteria.
  • Assists school staff in analyzing and interpreting data in order to implement programs to more effectively meet the educational needs of the students.
  • Assists in implementing continuous improvement efforts and instructional practices, such as support for Instructional Leadership Teams, and the building and monitoring of Professional Learning Community structures in ESSA identified schools.
  • Researches school improvement literature, grant programs, district evaluations, initiatives and school improvement project results.
  • Effectively communicates with associate superintendents, principals, and other district leaders regarding schools’ school improvement progress.
  • Implements and adapts various educational support systems designed to meet the needs of students.
  • Demonstrates courteous and cooperative behavior when interacting with students, clients, visitors, and MPS staff; acts in a manner that promotes a harmonious and effective workplace environment.
  • Enthusiastically promotes the Superintendent’s goals and priorities in compliance with all policies and procedures.
  • Maintains absolute confidentiality of work-related issues, records and MPS information.
  • Other duties or tasks may be assigned on an as-needed basis

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education, Training and Experience Guidelines

Bachelor’s Degree in Education or related field; AND five (5) years of teaching experience; OR an equivalent combination of education, training and experience as determined by Human Resources.


LICENSE AND CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS

Minnesota Teaching License is required.

A valid Minnesota State Driver’s License may be required.


Knowledge of:

  • Applicable policies, procedures and regulations covering specific areas of assignment.
  • Rules and regulations of the Minnesota Department of Education and other governing agencies.
  • Rules and regulations of the US Department of Education, including the Every Student Succeeds Act.
  • Methods for improving student achievement in public education.
  • Specialized MPS and state agency software applications and procedures.
  • Principles of record keeping, records management, and management of confidential records.


Skill in:

  • Reviewing and monitoring school improvement plans.
  • Planning and coordinating the work of others on a day to day basis.
  • Assessing and prioritizing multiple tasks, projects and demands.
  • Compiling, manipulating, and analyzing data.
  • Administering school support programs.
  • Establishing and maintaining cooperative working relationships with co-workers.
  • Effective verbal and written communication.


Bargaining Unit:
MAAS l Grade: 71 l Salary Range*: From $92,387 - $115,379 per year l FLSA Status: Exempt

  • The salary range is provided by the collective bargaining agreement associated with this position. Actual pay will be based on selected candidates’ experience.

Work is performed in a classroom and a general office environment, with moderate physical requirements; requires occasionally lifting such articles as file boxes or heavier materials with help from others and/or lifting and carrying light objects frequently.
