ORGANIZATIONAL SUMMARY:
The Institute for School - Community Partnerships, Integrated Services and Child Mental Health and Educational Policy in the College of Education is nationally recognized research and training center that provides technical assistance to school districts and other service delivery leaders throughout the United States. The Institute's $20 million budget is derived from grants from federal, state, and private sources. It is the mission of the Institute's to implement research-based and innovative practices in Florida Schools though the use of technical assistance, training, coaching, and program evaluation. The Institute, through various projects, seeks to help enable all schools in the state of Florida to provide a safe, effective, and efficient environment; to continuously improve the academic and social/emotional growth of ALL students; and to engage families and communities in the schooling process.
POSITION SUMMARY:
The School Improvement Coordinator provides support and monitoring of plans (School Improvement Plan, District Managed Turnaround Plan, Turnaround Option Plan) for schools and districts in the region. The position will work directly with school leadership and staff in their assigned regions; and assure and monitor compliance with state and federal requirements. This position requires a deep understanding of what quality and learning ?looks like? in the classroom and the ability to identify strategies and develop systems to improve classroom instruction at the district and school level. This position must have knowledge of the Florida's Benchmarks for Excellent Student Thinking and the ability to use and analyze data to determine instructional needs. The ability to use and analyze data to determine instructional needs and possess strong interpersonal skills that lead to an effective working relationship with all stakeholders is a requirement of this position. An additional requirement of the position is to be able to travel both within the state at least 75% of the time for meetings, workshops/conferences, and site related monitoring and instructional reviews.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Promote, support, and determine SI compliance for districts and schools. Provide a non-threatening, open, professional and collaborative work relationship and leadership oversight between the Department, school district(s), and schools under SI for the purpose of school improvement and implementation for academic accountability. Provide technical assistance and coaching to schools. Participate in regional team meetings.
Manifests a professional code of ethics and values. Provide assistance with organizational change; program and instructional monitoring, and the teaching of Florida State Standards.
Assist districts in building capacity to critically assess and selectively incorporate evidence-based strategies to support school improvement by coordinating meetings, regional trainings, and professional development for identified schools within the region.
Continually analyze student performance data to drive school improvement strategies.
Conduct instructional reviews, review school assessment trend data, School Improvement Plan (SIP), District Managed Turnaround Plan, and Turnaround Option Plan.
Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned by supervisor.
POSITION QUALIFICATIONS:
MINIMUM:
This position requires a Master's degree (from an accredited institution) in Education, Adult Education or program related field. A minimum one (1) year of experience in a professional training position in school or district setting and demonstrated success in teaching adults and students in high-poverty school. Certification in a specialized content area (Reading, English Language Arts, Mathematics, and/or Science).
Deep understanding of quality teaching and learning in the classroom
Ability to identify strategies and develop systems to improve classroom instruction at the district and school level
Ability to develop monitoring systems with district and school leadership team
Knowledge of Florida State Standards
Ability to use and analyze data to determine instructional needs
Assist developing master schedules to support student achievement
Knowledge of various evidence-based instructional coaching approaches
Knowledge of how to evaluate and shape district and school cultures
Strong interpersonal skills that lead to an effective working relationship with all stakeholders
Strong written and verbal communication skills
Strong presentation skills and ability to deliver technical assistance in a method understood by stakeholders
Strong organizational, problem-solving skills
Demonstrated skill in ensuring accountability for all stakeholders in the school reform effort
Strong analytic and interpretation skills
Ability to orchestrate change and meet tight timeframes and balance multiple, competing priorities while maintaining goal directed behavior/performance
Knowledge of state and federal laws, rules, policies, procedures related to school improvement (SI).
PREFERRED:
Master's degree and five years successful teaching and/or instructional coaching experience at the school-based or district leadership level.
