Brite Horizons is seeking part-time and/or full-time School Aides/Behavior Interventionists (BI's) for our small non-public school in Scotts Valley.

Brite Horizons is a small non-public school that was created in 2019 as part of the ABRITE service continuum. Brite Horizons is a small school that offers assessment, educational services, and behavioral intervention based on the principles of applied behavior analysis (ABA). The school is staffed by a committed team of psychology, education or special educations students, or recent graduates, who work as part of an interdisciplinary team providing an individualized and comprehensive educational placement for students with a variety of specialized needs.

Details of the position:
The position of the interventionist entails working 1:1 with a student and providing behavioral support to help the student learn from a group setting and having an increasingly successful day as a result of the individualized and group based teaching.

Behavior Interventionists at our school typically work either M - F (full time) or M/W/F or T/R and the typical work week differs based on a team members' availability. In order to qualify for this position at our school, applicants must be available from 8 - 3 p.m. on the days they are available. Other qualifications, include TB clearance and first aid certification, to name a few, are needed.

Prior to beginning working with our students, all new team members are provided with extensive training on the methods of Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA). Some team members will be referred to sit for the RBT exam, depending on skill level. Should the team member sit for and pass this exam, additional positions and compensation are available.

Position Distinction (to aid in understanding this position from our other school or RBT positions)

- Supports student(s) by implementing outlined individualized behavior intervention plans, reinforcement (“reward”) systems, use of strategies designed to promote student participation in academic instruction, and emergency-based intervention plans.

- Implements school-wide protocols and support systems

- Student behavior intervention plans address more severe and/or higher rate behaviors such as physical aggression, self-injurious behavior, property destruction, and/or elopement.

- Students have highly individualized academic curriculum and needs. Considerable communication with teacher for implementation.

- Emergency-based intervention may be needed. HWC certification is required.

Training provided:

- Initial training is approximately 26 hours

- Ongoing Training:

  • In-vivo observation and written feedback (3-4/month)
  • Daily on-site in-vivo support provided
  • Monthly group-format training (2hrs/month)

Requirements:

  • Must have experience working with children in an educational setting.
  • Interested in working with children with behavioral needs.
  • Must be interested in learning about ABA
  • Career track in psychology, special education, child development or related field.
  • Must have a high school diploma with some college.
  • Ability to work 8 am- 3 pm a minimum of 2 days per week. Ideally, Tuesday/Thursday or MWF.
  • Must be able to lift and/or pull 50 pounds, Spanish speaking a plus.
  • Provide TB clearance and be First Aid Certified (or willing to complete).
  • Must be an energetic person who enjoys working with children.
  • All applicants must be vaccinated and up to date on boosters as we currently have a mandatory vaccine contingency against COVID-19.

Pay: $22.00 - $28.00 per hour
