Job Title: SBA Workout Officer
Reports To: SBA Servicing and Liquidation Manager
Direct Reports: N/A
Salary Grade: 11/11A
SUMMARY This position requires knowledge in SBA, USDA and commercial lending workout with knowledge of tax returns and business loans. Must have the ability to facilitate the resolution of past due and impaired SBA or USDA loans to minimize loss to the bank.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
- Bachelor’s Degree preferred
- Minimum 5 years of experience in SBA lending, SBA workout, and/or related experience such as consumer and commercial collections
- Knowledge of SBA SOP’s 50-10-6 (most recent) & 50 57 2; USDA regulations
- Knowledge of lending regulatory compliance such as Regulation(s) B, P, FEMA flood insurance requirements, Regulation X, ECOA, SCRA and BSA/AML requirements
- Understanding of loans, loan documentation and legal remedies for challenged credits
- Understanding of the various bankruptcy proceedings (Chapter 7, 11 & 13)
- Manage a liquidation and workout portfolio
- Ability to perform analysis on business financials and tax returns in order to detect “red flags”, identify trends quickly and recommend any changes to the existing workout plan
- Ability to spread and analyze business and personal financial statements and cash flow, gather relevant information, and make appropriate recommendations utilizing Moody’s or Baker Hill software
- Good interpersonal and communication skills Willing to work well with others for the best strategies to protect the Bank
- Attain knowledge and proficiency with systems necessary to position (nCino, Navigator, Director, Shaw, Baker Hill and any others used)
- Knowledgeable of office software such as Excel, Word and PowerPoint
- Must be detail-oriented and organized
- Participate in all required compliance training, including Bank Secrecy Act/anti-money laundering training, as well as internal and external training programs, online training, meetings, and seminars/conferences, etc.
JOB FUNCTIONS
- Meets / communicates with clients to determine the best course of action
- Minimize risks by adhering to the SOP 50 57 2’s prescribed workout timelines
- Administer workout plans to have a high probability of success and also yield a better net present value option to ensure guaranty payback from the SBA
- Creates workout plans to ensure compliance with accounting, regulatory, audit, SOX initiatives, guidelines and policies including, but not limited to CFPB guidance, Regulation X, ECOA, Financial Difficulty Modifications (FDM) and accrual status changes
- Relative to individually assigned portfolio management duties; handles a portfolio of SBA, USDA or other Government guaranteed loans
- Analyzes or facilitates the analysis of tax returns and other income verification to determine creditworthiness of borrowers and their ability to meet existing or proposed contract terms with the bank
- Recommends restructure/disposition strategies as part of the negotiation with clients and concerning preparation for ORE for the SBA Workout Department
- Together with Senior SBA Workout Officer, communicates and corresponds with legal counsel regarding status of foreclosures and other legal matters
- May request or direct the request of on-site property inspections and appraisal review
- Maintains open communication with relationship managers and other bank personnel in originating branches
- Other duties as assigned
