The Saturday Live, Program Assistant performs duties under the direct supervision of the Saturday Live Coordinator, Recreation Supervisor and the overall management of the Division Manager of Programming. General responsibilities include, but are not limited to maintaining supervision and leadership of participants during the program, set-up and clean-up of facility. This position works closely with children and parents, and is part of a team.
The Saturday Live program runs from October- April on the 1st and 3rd Saturday evening between approximately 4:45-9:15pm. This is an at-will position.

TASKS YOU WILL DO

Essential Responsibilities

  • Supervises children attending the program and promote safety and respect among its participants.
  • Provides leadership for all activities and events.
  • Supervises all activities, demonstrating when needed.
  • Ensures the best programming for participants by cooperating with management and co-workers.
  • Ensures that the health and safety needs of the participants are met and all health and safety issues are dealt with immediately and appropriately.
  • Follows proper procedures in administering first aid and reporting incidents.
  • Sets up and cleans up facility in accordance with facility expectations.
  • Complies with all safety and loss prevention policies.
  • Inform supervisor of any unsafe conditions or hazardous work procedures.
  • Correct any unsafe conditions, if possible, and instruct co-workers on safety procedures.
  • Completes all additional duties as prescribed by management.
  • Assists other Park District employees when needed.

  • Maintains a working knowledge of all general and departmental-specific safety rules.
  • Uses material handling equipment or staff assistance when lifting and/or moving objects 50 pounds or heavier.
  • Reports any work-related injuries to supervisor promptly.
  • Immediately reports all accidents and unsafe conditions to the supervisor.
  • Attends all required safety program and in-service education meetings.
  • Corrects unsafe conditions, if possible, alerts co-workers to potential unsafe conditions and/or reports them to supervisor.
  • Instructs co-workers, when necessary, on safety procedures or precautions.

SKILLS YOU NEED

Qualifications

  • Minimum of 14 years old, with experience with leading children/youth activities (approximate ages 8 to 12 years old).
  • Excellent customer service skills; verbal communication skills and listening skills.
  • Current First Aid and CPR certification preferred.

Hours Standards_*
This is a seasonal part time position from October to April. Work hours are between 4:45 p.m. to 9:15 pm. on the first and the third Saturday of the month.
