Job description
Intervention Description The Municipality of San Juan proposes to deploy AmeriCorps members in five (5) highly vulnerable and socioeconomically disadvantaged communities (Playita, Oriente, Machuchal, Las Curías and La Loma) to increase their knowledge, skills, and abilities to adequately prepare for events that may culminate in natural disasters, thereby strengthening their disaster preparedness and resilience. This project will have the following components: (a) emergency preparedness education and (b) development of a pool of volunteers to assist in emergency events. AmeriCorps members will carry out activities in all areas of the project according to the particular needs of each community served. Members will offer services from community centers, community resiliency centers or other appropriately equipped municipal buildings, strategically located in the community served and the Municipal Tower of the Municipality of San Juan in Hato Rey, where they will have an assigned office space. AmeriCorps members will develop and deliver 25 educational disaster preparedness workshops to 500 at-risk individuals.
