Reports to

• EHS Manager/Supervisor or Designee

Daily Duties

• Be certified in First responders AED CPR and BASIC First Aid/BBP
• Update Lost Time Accident Board
• Unlock/Lock Conference Rooms
• Check to see that there were no security alarms
• Check to see if there were any injuries the previous evening
• Do a plant walk through to check on safety items, including securing the compressed gas cylinders with chains, people are using fall protection, people are properly wearing safety glasses, any other misc. safety issues.

Weekly Duties

• Check on training which is occurring in shop and office, maintain log with Training Matrix and Training coordinator
• Conduct safety team meeting, perform safety team walk through in plant
• Get with maintenance to follow up on status of any work orders in shop concerning safety
• Follow up with supervisors about any injuries which are alleged to have occurred in their areas the previous week
• Update training files: get with manufacturing technicians, production staff and office staff to see what training occurred during the prior week and what is scheduled for the upcoming week.
• Update Workers Comp files
• Distribute and Update Facility key FOBS

As Needed Duties

• If an accident in plant occurs, oversee handling of accident, get employee to doctor, investigate to determine cause and if appropriate initiate changes to prevent recurrence, initiate disciplinary action if needed. The full procedures, blank forms and examples of how to fill out the forms are in a binder labeled “Accident Reporting Procedures: located in “T” drive, counsel and instruct Employee’s Management/Supervisor/Designee of Employee that is injured in paperwork needed for documentation
• Follow up on injuries, talk to doctor as needed, gather paperwork from Mgr./Supv/Designees of injured Employee first report of accident on claim and forward to workers comp carrier, follow up with employee to see how they are doing, if they will miss work, and if so how long. Find out if worker is on any sort of restrictions, work with supervisor to provide limited duty job under VTC Light/Modified duty program. Make sure supervisor does this, and allows the person to work limited duty.
• Follow up on injuries with workers comp. Call as needed to comp carrier, the individual, or the medical facility. Also talk to the supervisor. Send medical bills to comp carrier, track down any long-term unpaid bills.
• Enter injuries on the OSHA 300 Log per published guidelines. Guidelines are on the back of the Log. Basically, any injury requiring first aid, whether or not given by a doctor, is not recordable. Any injury that results in lost time, restricted work activity, or medical care beyond first aid has to be recorded on the 300 Log.
• Conduct New Employee Safety Orientation for all new shop employees.
• Classroom certification for new employee on forklift and crane operation as part of Safety Orientation training as needed and then give each new employee a “train the trainer” practical test using the material in the training center, the forklift/crane at the training kiosk, and the evaluation score sheet in the Safety Orientation materials
• Be prepared for unannounced inspections by OSHA, the Virginia Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ), the Roanoke City Wastewater treatment plant, the Roanoke City Fire Department, and any other state, local, or federal agency that has a mandate to protect the public interest.
• Assist EHS Manager/Supervisor or Designee with all aspects of Environmental and Health and Safety processes and procedures in all facilities in Virginia facilities
• Assist with hazardous waste removed from Paint process and other facility areas using establish procedures and processes and the use of Company approved vendors
• Security coordinator for VTC. Deal with alarm system, reinforce to managers that they must train their employees and issue them codes to the alarm system if necessary. Aid where needed. Coordinate with Facility Management and alarm company for repairs to alarm system.
• Assist sales dept. in filling out customer requests in terms of our safety programs, EEO data, etc. assist in the information uploading to such websites as ISNETWORLD and AVETTA, etc.
• Become certified in “Train the Trainer” in LOTO, Confined Space, Forklift/Crane, etc. to assist in certification of Shop Employees.

Periodic tasks and duties

• OFCCP report annual. This Report is signed by the HR Manager.
• Assist in Tier II hazardous substance report—Annual due by March 1st. This is just a report sent to the Virginia DEQ and to the local fire department stating that we have large amounts of paint and paint related flammable materials on hand, the amount we have, and the location of the material in the plant. This report is signed by the Operations Manager.
• Assist in Form R report (Toxic Release Inventory)—Annual, due by July 1st. We get a package from the EPA for this, it consists of a program to collect data and report it. To get the data, I have to go into the gull system and look up all the paint and paint related materials we used during the preceding calendar year, figure out how much of each, get the MSDS sheet for that material, and using the ingredients list on the MSDS sheet figure out how much Xylene by weight. The report is called a “TRI Report” or Form R. This report is signed by the Operations Manager.
• Wastewater discharge permit. Assist in the renewal process for this permit.
• Assist in daily weekly monthly reporting of Air Discharge permit—indefinite, but open to periodic audits—necessary because of paint booths. This is issued by the Va. Department of Environmental quality.
• Compile accident data for weekly/monthly report monthly.
• Annual plant walks through inspection and survey from Roanoke City Wastewater Treatment Facility—get the Roanoke City pre-treatment coordinator.
• Set up hearing tests for metal fab.
• Assist conduct weekly monthly quarterly OSHA Safety training for all Shop Employees
• Conduct monthly safety lottery drawing
• Be able to work any shift and or be able to assist in off shift situations
• Note: VTC management retains the discretion to add to or change the duties/specifications of this position at any time.

Preferred:

Bachelors degree.

Two to four years’ experience in manufacturing in a related industry.

Familiarity with personal computers.

Word processing and spread sheet skills.

Pay: $41,645.69 - $86,705.43 per year
