The Virginia Department of Transportation’s (VDOT) is excited to offer and announce a competitive opportunity to serve as a Right of Way Associate in the Central Office’s Right of Way Division. This position will be located in Fredericksburg, Virginia. The selected candidate will support Right of Way functions through a learning program in preparation for higher level position in the Division.

- Participate in a 12 – 18 month rotation through various Right of Way functions/disciplines to include a minimum of 6 months in the Negotiation/Legal Discipline.
- Learn the Right of Way disciplines and associated body of knowledge (laws, policies and procedures).
- Acquire knowledge in property appraisal, negotiation, relocation, and legal obligations. Identify hurdles to learning through his or her immediate supervisor, as assigned, and to program coordinators.
- Participate in the Preliminary Engineering Project Development process, including Right of Way quality control plan review.

Minimum Qualifications
Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Ability to use logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative approaches to problems.
Knowledge of principles and processes for providing customer services, including customer needs assessment, meeting quality standards and evaluating customer satisfaction.
Ability to resolve disputes, complaints, and conflicts effectively and tactfully.
Skilled with personal computers and associated systems, particularly Microsoft Office and Google Applications software.
Skill in performing basic mathematics. Ability to conduct research, prepare reports and make presentations.
