Part-Time Retail Position for the New Jersey State Museum Gift Shop.

The NJSM Foundation is looking for a PT Retail Sales Associate to sell and provide customer service that exceeds our visitor’s expectations and enables us to achieve our sales goals in the Museum and Online shops. Working alone and as part of a team the primary focus will be sales with additional responsibilities in marketing, visual merchandising and store and inventory maintenance.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES: Greet and acknowledge all customers shopping in the Museum Shop to learn customer shopping purpose(s) and assist them accordingly. Assist with maintenance of the store by cleaning, straightening, ticketing and restocking as needed. Assist with the online store by processing orders, maintaining stock levels and assortment ideas. Participate in annual inventory process. Other related duties that contribute to sales and business goals could involve social media programs and promotional suggestions. Promote State Museum programs and exhibitions. Promote memberships and special events.

EXPERIENCE & SKILLS: A positive history of punctuality and attendance is required in a Retail Sales and/or Customer Service environment. Ideal candidate will possess an outgoing and positive demeanor with good interpersonal and communication skills. Ability to learn and adapt/apply customer service standards, product knowledge, and register functions.

KNOWLEDGE & EDUCATION: Business, Marketing, Sales and History background and interest preferred. College Degree or College Enrolled Preferred, High School Diploma Required.

*NOTE – This position ideally requires weekend and weekday hours – from 18 to 30 per week depending on the time of year. Weekends will be split monthly and allows for one weekend off and one on. If the applicant can only commit to weekends please apply. The hours are 10 – 4 Saturday and Sunday.
