Student Housing is a self-funded, large and complex campus department consisting of 6 housing communities and 3 support units, with more than 240 staff employees, 300-400 student employees and an annual operating budget of $120 million. Student Housing provides housing for approximately 9,000 undergraduates, graduate students and their families in over 250 buildings and approximately 3.3 million sq. ft. Currently, Student Housing houses 45% of UCI’s enrolled students (in conjunction with American Campus Communities, UCI’s 3rd party housing partner) with a goal of housing 60% as part of the campus Long Range Development Plan (LRDP). Student Housing also provides maintenance and repair services to student residents.
Using knowledge and skills as a seasoned, experienced Student Services professional, performs the full range of duties and responsibilities within a Student Life specialization. Assesses situations and determines appropriate action or referral. Works independently under general supervision to provide information and interpretation of complex policies, procedures and regulations. Identifies and responds to student needs for programs, services, and crisis intervention. Under the direction of the Associate Director of Residence Life, the Residence Life Coordinator shares responsibility for after hour emergency and crisis response in a diverse community setting. Assist in the development of community through connecting with residents, supervising student staff, programming, advising groups, managing projects, adjudicating student conduct and administrative duties, this will be a visible and important position in developing the residence community. Overall responsibilities include the selection, training, supervision, and evaluation of student staff (Resident Advisor and others as applicable, oversight of programming, budget management, counseling and referring students (individually and in groups) assisting with residence hall classes, committee work within housing and with other student service offices; and working cooperatively with other campus agencies such as UCI Police Department (UCIPD), Counseling Center, and Health Services. The Residence Life Coordinator will assist the Associate Director in the development of the overall Residence Life program within student housing. This is a Student Housing position, initial assignment is community based, and may be changed depending on departmental needs.

Required:
- Experience administering a student conduct process and skills in interpreting, enforcing and explaining to residents University Policies.
- Master's degree in student personnel or related field and/or equivalent education and experience. Bachelor's degree in related area and / or equivalent experience / training.
- Valid California Driver’s license
- Ability to develop, implement and monitor budget, and maintain accurate records of expenditures. Ability to organize, implement, evaluate resident events and activities within a purposeful community development context. Knowledge in diversity and multicultural education. Skills in judgment and decision-making, problem solving, identifying measures of system performance and the actions to improve performance. Ability to develop original ideas to solve problems. Thorough knowledge of Student Affairs / Student Life specialization.
- Strong communication skills and ability to interact successfully in a diverse setting. Experience administering a student conduct process and skills in interpreting, enforcing and explaining to residents University Policies. Skill in counseling individual students and groups of students of diverse backgrounds regarding personal and academic needs; knowledge of campus resources for referrals Ability to respond in a rational and level-headed manner in a crisis or emergency situation using effective crisis management techniques.
- Knowledge of student development theory to the student housing population. Abilities in project management, problem identification and reasoning skills. Thorough knowledge of advising and counseling techniques.
Preferred:
Strong knowledge of common University-specific computer application programs and knowledge of University and departmental principles and procedures involved in risk assessment and evaluating risks as to likelihood and consequences.
Special Conditions Required:
- Must be willing to respond to emergencies and crisis. Required to return to work in the event of a natural disaster. May be assigned to work in a different primary residential community due to staffing changes.
- Must be willing to work evenings, nights, and some weekends and/or an alternative work schedule.
- Required to share night and weekend duty.
- Must live in housing provided by the complex and sign a live-on agreement.
