Research Technician – Charlotte, NC

Where the Chemistry Happens…

We are seeking a Laboratory Technician to work in the Dispersions & Resins (ED) business unit as part of our Charlotte, NC site.

This position will have primary responsibility of supporting new product development in the Polymerization Laboratory. Job requires operating laboratory scale solvent and water phase polymerization reactors. It involves performing small scale synthesis according to recipes provided by scientists in the product development group.

Role supports the product development effort for the growth of the EDN business. Works closely with the scientists responsible for development projects associated with the different business groups.

Laboratory Technicians are assigned specific reactors and are responsible for the safe and efficient daily operation and upkeep of these reactors along with another laboratory technician on the alternate shift. These positions to fill shift schedules 6am-2:30pm and 2pm -10:30pm.

Qualifications - BASF recognizes institutions of Higher Education which are accredited by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation or equivalent

Formula for Success

Bachelors degree in Chemistry or similar OR Associates degree plus 2 years of chemical lab/similar experience OR High School diploma plus 5 years of chemical lab/similar experience Capable of working in a structured environment where activities are governed by written procedures and priorities can change daily. Have a strong sense of work ethic and self-motivation with high standards of integrity, accuracy, and attention to detail. Must operate with a high sense of urgency. Able to work comfortably in a team environment and effectively on an individual basis possessing good oral and written communication skills. Qualified individual will be capable of full shifts of light physical activity, full days of desk work and combinations of both. Must have basic computer skills and be comfortable with email, MS Word, MS Excel and MS PowerPoint. Controls hardware and software experience preferred. Maintaining and operating testing equipment & instruments Operating laboratory scale solvent and water phase polymerization reactors Measuring physical properties of specimens using viscometers, particle size analyzers, rheometers and other instruments. Timely data entry, updating and closing projects in a database.
