Basic Function

As an expert in assigned discipline, the incumbent provides a high level of professional expertise, guidance, and training in area of specialization in the resolution of complex problems relating to well design (gas and oil) and operations.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Initiates and carries out original innovative applied research in well construction more specifically zonal isolation a high business impact area to Aramco
  • Test drilling and cementing fluids under high pressure and temperature conditions
  • Capture intellectual property relevant to drilling technologies
  • Prepare and deliver high impact technical papers within peer-reviewed journals
  • Familiarity with the different phases of well construction and the challenges associated with each phase, including understanding of drilling operations, fluid rheology, basic rock mechanics and zonal isolation
  • Work with other teams and disciplines within Aramco to ensure best integrated solutions to near as well as long term opportunities
  • Participate in seminars and technical presentations in areas of interest to Aramco
  • Mentor other research scientists and laboratory specialists
  • Be a team player working with people who have a wide range of skill sets and disciplines
  • Demonstrate a strong commitment to maintain high quality occupational health, safety, & environment (HSE) rules and regulations
  • Keeps current on new developments in his/her area of expertise; actively participates in work of technical societies (e.g., SPE, API, AADE, ASTM, ACS)
  • Maintains and updates his/her knowledge of applications of relevant new research strategies and results that might positively impact Aramco operations
  • Maintains and update his/her knowledge of the newest instrumentation and testing strategies and recommends their merits to management towards current and potentially future advanced investigative programs
  • Recommends management action to be taken because of his/her work for the purpose of solving or preventing operational problems

Education and Experience

  • M.S. Degree in a Science/Engineering Discipline. Ph.D. preferred
  • Typically has sixteen (16) years of professional experience including at least five (5) years as a specialist with full responsibility for major technical work in area of specialization
  • Must be able to communicate and comprehend accurately, clearly, and concisely in English at a level required to perform the job as outlined; good interpersonal and communication skills; proficient technical writing skills
  • Incumbent will have achieved substantial industry recognition in his/her area of expertise; ideally, the incumbent will have published in significant peer reviewed technical journals and will have a history of active participation and leadership in technical society activities
