Clemson University’s newly established Center for Addiction and Mental Health Research (CAMH) in the College of Behavioral, Social, and Health Sciences (CBSHS) is recruiting a full-time Research Associate. The candidate will work with CAMH to conduct research on mental health and substance use, including epidemiology, surveillance, community-based initiatives, service provision, prevention programming, program evaluation, and intervention. The initial focus of the position will be to assist with proposal development to pursue external funding from the South Carolina Opioid Settlement Funds and other local, state, and federal agencies including NIH, NIDA, NIAAA, SAMHSA, and CDC. The candidate will facilitate collaborations among CBSHS faculty members, community organizations, and other academic partners (including University of South Carolina, Medical University of South Carolina, Furman University, Prisma Health) to develop successful grant proposals and implement research projects on behalf of Clemson faculty. The candidate will engage in project management, data collection and analysis, and manuscript preparation for publication in scientific journals.

The candidate will contribute to the CBSHS mission of “building people and communities” by addressing health and wellness challenges, and better understanding human and social behavior in an ever-connected world.

JOB DUTIES:
30% - Essential - Grant Proposals:
Assists with proposal development to pursue external funding from the South Carolina Opioid Settlement Funds and other local, state, and federal agencies including NIH, NIDA, NIAAA, SAMHSA, and CDC. Facilitates collaborations among CBSHS faculty members, community organizations, and other academic partners (including University of South Carolina, Medical University of South Carolina, Furman University, Prisma Health) to develop successful grant proposals and implement research projects on behalf of Clemson faculty.
25% - Essential - Project Management & Data Collection/Analysis:
Engages in project management, data collection and analysis, and manuscript preparation for publication in scientific journals.
25% - Essential - Research:
Works with CAMHR to conduct research on mental health and substance use, including epidemiology, surveillance, community-based initiatives, service provision, prevention programming, program evaluation, and intervention.
20% - Essential - Collaboration & Communications:
Collaborates with accomplished scholars across the College of Behavioral, Social and Health Sciences, which encompasses seven departments and twelve centers and institutes: Communication; School of Nursing; Parks, Recreation and Tourism Management; Political Science; Psychology; Public Health Sciences; and Sociology, Anthropology and Criminal Justice. Assists with promoting the visibility of CAMHR, including coordinating seminars, conferences, meetings, and communications. Contributes to the CBSHS mission of building people and communities by addressing health and wellness challenges, and better understanding human and social behavior in an ever-connected world.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
Qualifications and Necessary Skills
- PhD in psychology, public health sciences, sociology, or related field
- Evidence of grant writing ability
- Evidence of writing ability
- Evidence of leading research publications related to substance use and/or mental health
- Understanding of quantitative analysis and analytic methods for data collection, analysis, interpretation, report writing and publication
