The Getty Research Institute is seeking a research assistant who will work with two of its associate directors, facilitating research and/or assisting with exhibitions, collection development, and publications. The ideal candidate will be a graduate student with experience in Information Studies, Art History, or Digital Humanities, with excellent data management skills and diverse research experience. Field of specialization is open.
Major Job Responsibilities:
  • Conducts research on various topics related to art history, libraries, and collections
  • Gathers, processes, and presents institutional data on current practices and programs in peer academic institutions, as well as galleries, libraries, archives, and museums (GLAM)
  • Requests images for exhibitions and/or publications; researches and obtains art and image permissions
  • Proofreads and edits, as needed
  • Assists with the creation of reports, project websites, and PowerPoint presentations
  • May copyedit and review texts for public dissemination or publication
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree in art history or related field; Master’s degree or some graduate work preferred
  • 0-2 years research experience (education may be considered)
  • Strong skills in gathering, manipulating, evaluating, and presenting qualitative and quantitative data

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
  • Background in Information Studies, Art History, Digital Humanities, or related discipline
  • Attention to details
  • Strong communication skills
  • Ability to manage multiple projects in a timely manner
  • Ability to build relationships, partner with others and work on teams
  • Ability to set and meet deadlines for oneself
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (required) and Adobe software suites (preferred)
  • Proficiency in data analysis software, such as Tableau, or experience in wrangling and visualizing data with R or Python, or a willingness to learn these skills
