Part-time employees will receive some of the benefits listed above on a prorated basis. Candidates hired into positions that are less than 60% of a full-time position may not be eligible for all benefits.
Position Summary

A Nurse Clinician 2 is responsible for providing skilled nursing care to patients in the state correctional facilities. This may include both ambulatory and infirmary settings. These skilled nursing duties include patient assessment and treatment, assisting the physician in providing medical services, management of medications, provision of emergency care, and maintenance of medical records. In addition, the Nurse Clinician 2 is expected to participate in educational programs for staff and inmates and participate in activities to maintain their nursing skill level.
Salary Information

Nurse Clinician 2 is in pay schedule/range 11-02 with a starting pay of $33.73/hr - $39.78/hr, depending on years of licensed nursing experience.
Those hired into the Nurse Clinician 2 Weekend classification will receive an additional $10.00/hr. This classification is used for positions scheduled for dedicated weekend hours and are usually part-time.
There are currently two temporary add-ons of an additional $5.00/hr worked, plus an additional $3.00/hr worked on Saturday and Sunday available at select facilities. The provision that permits this temporary add-on is currently set to expire June 17, 2023. If you are offered an interview, you can ask if the facility you are interviewing with has these add-ons available.
Nurse Clinician 2 positions at Milwaukee Secure Detention Facility may receive an additional add-on of $3.00/hr worked.
Candidates new to state service, or with no state service in the past 5 years, may be eligible for a sign on bonus of $2,000 .
Pay on appointment for current state employees may vary according to the applicable pay transaction provisions of the State Compensation Plan, Wisconsin Administrative Code, and statutes. A twelve-month probationary period is required. Telecommuting options not available for these positions.
Job Details

Applicants must be legally authorized to work in the United States (i.e. a citizen or national of the U.S., a lawful permanent resident, or an alien authorized to work in the U.S. without DOC sponsorship) at the time of application.
The Department of Corrections may conduct pre-employment drug screens. Any applicant who is offered employment in a position which requires a pre-employment drug screen must pass the screen as a contingency of employment.
The Department of Corrections will conduct criminal background checks on applicants prior to selection. Upon hire, all new DOC employees are subject to fingerprinting.
All state employees must report their COVID vaccination status, whether vaccinated or not and provide supporting documentation if vaccinated. Newly hired employees will be required to submit this information within their first two weeks of employment.

Qualifications

SPECIAL REQUIREMENT:
Applicants must possess current Wisconsin licensure as a Registered Nurse or be licensed in another state and be eligible to obtain Wisconsin licensure by time of appointment.
Qualified applicants will possess: Considerable knowledge of current professional nursing theory and practice Skill in the application of nursing practice in meeting specific needs of adults, including emergency care Ability to work effectively with other disciplines in a team relationship Ability to maintain a helpful and understanding attitude toward the incarcerated adult exhibiting hostile or other negative behavioral traits Ability to work with a multi-ethnic, multi-cultural population

There will be a question related to Part-Time and Full-Time work. Full-Time work is any position with an expectation of 40 hours per week. Part-Time is anything less than 40 hours a week, some positions might be 90%, 80%, 60% et cetera. You would be notified of the percentage when offered an interview and would be able to choose whether to interview based on that information. You will not be able to change your Full-Time/Part-Time selection after you apply, so we encourage you to select your options based on what you might be interested in and would like to be contacted about.
