Regional CI Engineering Manager:
SUMMARY PRIMARY JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
Responsible for leading continuous improvement activities across a group of plants. Responsible for driving effective implementation of lean principles across operations. Supervises assigned CI Engineers and coordinates their work within the scope of assigned responsibilities. A constant learner who serves as an expert resource across the organization, providing technical information, and engineering recommendations that influence projects and business imperatives.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES SCOPE:
Capable of working independently and with minimal direction on complex projects. Also responsible for the advancement and application of engineering technologies and processes.

SUPERVISING OTHERS:
Supervises a team of CI Engineers and technicians. Capable of leading a team in complex technical projects from development through implementation. Serves as a mentor and coach to others in area of expertise.

Responsibilities:

  • Leveraged as a Continuous Improvement expert in the organization to coach and provide direction in areas of expertise within the corporation. Requires an in-depth understanding of lean tools utilized in creating and sustaining a lean culture. Must be an effective change agent with a proven track record regarding leadership capabilities. Identifies and develops technologies and processes that are successfully integrated to build the business.
  • Exemplifies and influences others to drive positive change with a sense of urgency (try, learn, adjust). Embodies the lean culture of a relentless commitment to finding a better way through action and continuous learning. Plans, coordinates, coaches, and provides leadership on breakthrough events and other CI applications.
  • The scope of influence of this position spans manufacturing, engineering, information technology, quality, finance, product and process development, material, and equipment vendors. Strong cross-functional collaboration and influential leadership skills are necessary when prioritizing, planning, and implementing projects. The ability to effectively evaluate options, present information, defend a position and address concerns is key to driving execution. The ability to develop, measure, and share business value or outcomes with plants and stakeholders is important. The position is expected to understand and apply safe practices in line with Pella’s safety policies.
  • The individual in this role allocates a portion of time toward benchmarking world-class lean processes. Continued personal learning and self-development is imperative to accelerate business results while developing others. The individual in this role must be able to gain trust and effectively communicate with all levels in the organization - from the hourly employee to Executive.
  • As a partner for plants across the organization, this assignment requires that you can evaluate the needs of a plant by conducting annual lean assessments, participating in P&R/VSM sessions of plants, leading teams and/or finding resources with the desired skill sets to assist the plant in providing direction. Support training programs and assist in developing courses such as CI 101, CI Certification requirements, etc. This role will be used as a resource for challenged areas of the corporation to drive out waste, coach managers, lead teams and increase productivity to improve the department’s total performance.

Supervisory responsibilities: Manage 4-6 Exempt, Salaried non-Exempt or Hourly employees and direct activity for 10-30 CI Technicians.

Work hours: Normal + irregular hours/shifts required

Travel expectations: High – travel to other sites is required based on assignment of plants.

Computer skills: Microsoft Office applications. AutoCAD preferred.

EXPERIENCE:
7+ years combined engineering experience within 2-3 disciplines (Process, Product, CI, Project, Quality, Plant).

EDUCATION AND DEVELOPMENT:
Bachelor of Science in Engineering, Math, or relevant Science or combination of education and experience. Master’s Degree preferred in Engineering, Math, or relevant Science.

APPLICATION OF KNOWLEDGE:
Develops and evaluates plans and criteria for a variety of projects and activities. Plans, schedules, and coordinates detailed phases of a project or task.

Subject matter expert: responsible for developing and applying lean, six sigma, problem solving knowledge across multiple disciplines and across the organization.
Assesses the feasibility and soundness of proposed approaches, techniques, or equipment, when necessary, data are insufficient. Performs as requested as advisor and consultant relative to a scientific or engineering specialty or a product function. Conducts assignments requiring the development of new or improved techniques and procedures. Possesses in-depth problem-solving skills utilized to determine and address root cause. Work results in the development of refined equipment, materials, processes, products, technologies, and/or scientific methods.

JUDGMENT: Plans and coordinates work requiring independent judgment in the evaluation, selection, and adaptation of advanced techniques and processes. Knowledge and judgment have a direct effect on advancement of assigned technology and business results.
