Salt Lake City Young Life is looking for a full-time area director to join our current Area Director in ministry. If you are looking to grow God’s kingdom, this is the place to do it! Ministry Snapshot
- Metropolitan area consists of 125 middle schoolers and high schoolers.

Responsibilities:
Area Director responsibilities include the following. This role will be shared in Salt Lake City, and both area directors will share in the responsibilities.
Spiritual Life
- Has a relationship with Jesus Christ and is actively growing in ways outside of the Young Life ministry.
- Develop a yearly personal growth plan that fosters a vibrant spiritual life including time for solitude, retreat, reflection, prayer, and a sincere commitment to understanding God’s Word.
- Actively engaged in a local church.
- Adheres to Young Life’s policies for staff people.
Staff Care
- Hire, supervise, and train staff.
- Lead staff meetings.
- Care for the staff team and promote a healthy staff culture.
Leader Care and Development
- Prayerfully manage a group of dedicated volunteers as they love people in the name of Jesus.
- Work closely with Board Chair to maintain board/area health and fill positions.
- Develop a community of leaders who love one another and are growing in spiritual depth.
- Recruit adult leaders, young adults, and college-aged students.
- Helps plan and execute programmatic events including Bible studies, outreach-related activities, leader meetings, and committee meetings. These are often night-time meetings.
Direct Ministry
- Participate in dynamic direct ministry with kids (WyldLife and Young Life)
- Execute a camp strategy that maximizes students' opportunities to respond and react to the Christian faith. Includes weeklong summer camping and weekend camping trips throughout the year as scheduled.
- Oversee the current direct ministry while creating a plan to open specialty ministries (Capernaum, YoungLives, etc.) and ministry in schools not yet reached.
- Support the Young Life College Director and ministry.
- Oversee camp logistics to ensure a safe, fun, and smooth camping experience.
- Grasp the idea of “relational ministry” and earning the privilege to be heard in the community.
Fundraising (Personal and Locally)
- Provide leadership to the volunteer adult committee partnering to raise the local area budget as well as maintain the budget with stewardship capability.
- Help to develop and execute a financial strategy to achieve budgetary goals.
- Execute a personal fundraising plan.
- Create and manages area budget and donations via CashFlow.
- Partner with the committee and staff to execute large fundraising events such as one large banquet, year-end campaign, and one golf tournament.
- Work closely with the board member who oversees donor care.
Strategy and Community Engagement
- Cast vision for the area’s continued growth. Prayerfully work hard in reaching the next school in a healthy way.
- Able to inspire and cast vision, inviting new volunteer committee members and leaders into the ministry while giving them ownership and helping them to develop as leaders.
- Able to strategize alongside staff and regional director to grow ministry within Salt Lake City.
- Be the “Chief Asker, Communicator, and Storyteller.” Create a communication plan for the area to reach new and current parents, students, leaders, school administration, and committees.
- Develops relationships with churches and create community support.
- Communicates effectively (email, social media, website, and face-to-face) within the ministry as well as community-wide.
Qualifications:
- A call to reach adolescents with the Gospel.
- Proven leadership skills.
- Spiritual maturity and growing faith.
- Strong initiative and vision.
- Experience in raising money and managing budgets.
- Experience in supervision and development of people.
- Proven relational skills with both students and adults.
- Must be a self-starter/initiator.
- Must be able to lead in a developing area.
- Eager to learn and grow - teachable.
- Passionate about the Lord and teenagers.
- Willingness to participate in many night/weekend events.
- Creativity in making events, meetings, and gatherings fun.
- College degree preferred.
- Young Life experience (staff or volunteer) preferred.
