Position Summary
The Referral Clerk is responsible for receiving, processing, scheduling and following up on all medical referral requests, including in-house and outside referrals for diagnostic testing, medical specialists, or other providers.
Essential Functions
- Makes patient care referrals to outside agencies according to Titus Regional Medical Center's policies, procedures and responsibilities.
- Documents all referrals and forwards referral documents to appropriate personnel/department.
- Follows up the referrals in a timely manner to assure that appointments are made for appropriate care or testing.
- Answers patient inquiries and takes messages for follow up.
- Assists providers in completing all medical documentation needed to provide referral services following the specific procedure provided by the Nurse Supervisor as to what needs to be sent to specific entities.
- Participates in staff meetings and other meetings as instructed.
- Maintains confidentiality within the workplace and within the community.
- Handles protected health information in a manner consistent with HIPAA.
- Performs other duties as required and assigned.
- Reports to and departs from work on time and as scheduled.
- Must be able to deal with stress while maintaining composure.
- Follows and adheres to TRMC vaccine policy(s) mandated by the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS).
Work Experience
- Previous medical referral experience and/or CNA experience, preferred.
Education
- High School Diploma or equivalent preferred.
- Must be able to read, write, and speak English
