What You’ll Do:
Entry-level position focused on training to perform preventative maintenance and repairs of trailers and trailer refrigeration units. Will shadow Reefer Technician job duties and assist in conducting general and non-scheduled maintenance, including inspecting, troubleshooting, repairing and/or replacing components and systems.
· Shadow and assist with day-to-day Reefer Technician duties, including but not limited to:
o Diagnose complex mechanical, refrigerant, and electrical problems related to all Reefer systems (single & multi-temp), including engine, cooling, heating and on board computer modules.
o Perform repairs and diagnostics on starting and charging system, complex cooling and re-charge, and electrical including common fault codes. Repairs include performing leak detection procedures, compressor replacements, rebuilding throttling valves, soldering refrigerant lines, evaporator/condenser replacements and front main engine seal replacements.
o Perform repair and maintenance on trailers and reefer units in accordance with manufacturer’s specifications.
o Identify and obtain necessary replacement parts as needed to execute repairs.
· Participate in training programs, courses, or certification testing as related to the Reefer Technician role.
· Perform both Truck and Trailer Preventative Maintenance and DOT inspections as needed.
· Perform general shop maintenance duties as needed.
· Maintain a high level of productivity, safety awareness, and accountability.
What We’re Looking For:
Education
· Any combination of education or experience equivalent to a high school diploma.
Experience
· 1 year of DOT or Preventative Maintenance experience with tractors, trailers and/or Reefer Units OR a Technical Diploma from an accredited Diesel Technology Program that includes a transport refrigerant course required.
Skills/Certifications
· Must possess or be willing to obtain Refrigeration Universal 608 certification (Type II) within 12 months of date of hire (or starting the position for internal hires).
· Must be willing and able to successfully complete the Thermo King Basic Level trailer refrigeration training course within 12 months of date of hire, depending on class availability.
· Training certifications in Trailer and Reefer repair may also be required.
· Must be able to read, interpret, and follow refrigeration and electrical schematics.
· Valid driver’s license required.
· Basic computer skills preferred.
· Ability to read and write.
· Must provide and use basic hand and air tools to complete the desired repair tasks.
Physical Requirements: while performing the duties of this job the employee is regularly required to talk or hear; frequently stands, walks, uses hands to finger, handle or feel; and reaches with hands and arms.
- Ability to stand for long periods of time supporting full body weight
- Ability to walk 1000 feet minimum and change positions frequently
- Ability to frequently move shoulders with full range of motion in all six planes of movement
- Ability to reach heights over 72” frequently; ability to crouch to height of 18” frequently
- Ability to reach and stretch across the midline with full cervical range of motion and bilateral range of motion
- Ability to use hand tools constantly for extended periods of time
- Ability to stoop to 30” minimum and kneel to 18” minimum
- Ability to frequently climb 51’ with one 24” step and pull full body weight.
- Ability to frequently climb stairs 24” without a hand hold rail.
- Ability to pull self up ladder with 4x17”steps with upper body pull.
- Ability to constantly go in/out of truck on 51” and one 24” step pulling full body weight.
- Ability to frequently go up and down ramp.
- Ability to occasionally push 250 lbs, pull 125 lbs, frequently push/pull 100/50 lbs and constantly push/pull 50/25 lbs.
- Ability to occasionally carry, lift overhead, high, low and medium lift 51/75 lbs, frequently 50/21 lbs and constantly 20/1 lbs.

Work Environment / Physical Requirements –Repair Shop Settings.
