Pump Technician
Job Description
Summary
The Pump Technician will be required to install, commission, provide maintenance, and troubleshoot the Company’s in-house pump skid products. In-depth mechanical knowledge of centrifugal, self-priming centrifugal (trash), positive displacement, and air diaphragm pump types is required. Additionally, an introduction to commercial/industrial electrical circuits, 3-phase motors, and variable frequency drives is a plus. The person accepting this full-time position will be resourceful, independent, goal-driven, and most importantly, a team player.
Location
Houston Headquarters: Our industry-leading research and design team, as well as all primary administrative departments, are based out of our Houston office, located near I-10 & 6-10 in Spring Branch, Houston, Texas.
Travel Required
This role requires travel time up to 5%.
Essential Responsibilities
- Install, repair, and perform maintenance of all company-owned pump assets.
- Perform visual inspection of pump components to determine what actions are required.
- Understand the working principles of centrifugal pump technologies.
- Understand the working principles of positive-displacement pump technologies.
- Run various tests for pump performance verification: flowrate, pressure, rpm.
- Replace old and/or defective pump components with new ones (shafts, seals, rotors, etc.).
- Install and align newly assembled mechanical transmission devices (V-Belts, QD bushing and sheaves, gearboxes).
- Install, repair, and connect the electrical motor components on each pump skid (motor junction box, electrical plug on power cord, etc.).
- Perform upgrades of pump components and hardware.
- Maintain appropriate stock levels of pump parts. Restock when necessary.
- Educate and train other team members on these devices.
- Provide excellent interdepartmental service and satisfaction.
- Work in collaboration with the Shop, Electrical, and Engineering team members
- Identify unsafe conditions or potential hazards within the work environment.
Requirements
Qualifications
- 2 years of work experience as a Pump Technician, Mechanical Technician, Diesel Technician, or a similar position in the mechanical troubleshooting field.
- Sound knowledge of pump technologies (Centrifugal vs. Positive-Displacement)
- Ability to read and interpret mechanical assembly drawings.
- Excellent troubleshooting abilities.
- Knowledge and experience in calibrating equipment.
- Good oral and written communication skills.
- Experience working with low voltage devices (<600V) is a plus.
- Demonstrate the ability to work under minimal supervision.
- Good interpersonal and time management skills.
- Reliable personal transportation and valid driver’s license.
Skills / Knowledge / Abilities
- Ability to read and interpret Engineering Drawings and Schematics.
- Ability to inspect and troubleshoot defective pumps and organize a plan to refurbish.
- Proficient and safe use of hand and power tools while working.
- Ability to follow instructions and independently function to meet departmental requirements within a defined time frame.
- Basic understanding of analog sensors (flow, pressure) and installation in piping.
- Basic operation of a Digital Multi Meter.
- Ability to perform QA/QC checks prior to “Green-Tag” and properly record test results.
- Proficient MS Office computer skills. Knowledge of Jira is a plus.
- Attention to detail and focus on quality and accuracy.
- Must be able to pass a post-offer Fit for duty physical, urine and hair-follicle drug screen and background check
