The Columbia County Mental Health Clinic is seeking a licensed and certified New York State Nurse Practitioner to join our progressive and compassionate team here in scenic Columbia County New York. performing within the American Nursing Association code for Professional Nurses, this key position works collaboratively to assess, manage and provide appropriate treatment services to adults and children with a mental health diagnosis. Please note: This position is performed on-site/in-person only.

NURSE PRACTITIONER (PSYCHIATRY)

DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE CLASS: In collaboration with a physician in accordance with written protocol, the Nurse Practitioner in Psychiatry performs specialized duties in clinical settings or home, performs mental health assessments, manages the care of patients within the field of psychiatric mental health, and provides health education to patients. The Nurse Practitioner assesses the physical and psychological status of patients by means of interview, health history, physical examinations and diagnostic tests. Consistent with the medical protocol established by collaborating physician of record, the Nurse Practitioner evaluates test findings, make assessments and initiates appropriate treatment including prescription of medications and ordering of laboratory tests. The Nurse Practitioner does related work as required.

FULL PERFORMANCE KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND PERSONAL CHARACTERISTICS:

• Thorough knowledge of nursing principles and techniques and their relation to medical practice;
• Thorough knowledge of the theory and practice of preventive and public health care inclusive of those skills required to develop and implement a plan of primary health care to meet patient needs;
• Thorough knowledge of normal and abnormal signs and symptoms relating to physical and emotional health;
• Thorough knowledge of Nurse Practitioner in Psychiatry skills;
• Ability to perform duties within the American Nursing Association code for Professional Nurses;
• Ability to plan, organize, coordinate, administer and evaluate the effectiveness of program plans and provision of services related to public health nursing;
• Ability to understand and carry out technical oral and written instructions;
• Ability to recognize signs and symptoms associated with changes in the physical and emotional health of patients and ability to respond appropriately;
• Ability to explain or interpret instructions of technical and professional nature to patients, families, nursing staff and/or other personnel;
• Physical condition commensurate with the demands of the position.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

• Possession of a valid New York State License as a Registered Nurse; AND
• Possession of a New York State Certificate as a Nurse Practitioner; AND
• Certified as a Nurse Practitioner in Psychiatry
