FAR Group has a requirement for Music Director that shall provide non-personal services for all Protestant Worship Services, holidays, and special events, and will facilitate chapel memorial services of the Joint Base Anacostia-Bolling Chapel when requested and available. The Candidate’s duties will include the spiritual care of military personnel, dependents, civilians, and candidates through the facilitation and expression of music styles, while meeting the demands of JBAB’s unique parish community.

Directorship shall be required for rehearsals, services, and special services.

Special services include but are not limited to: memorial services, funeral services, combined services, faith specific holidays, and occasional support for special events.

GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES. Music Director shall:

Provide musical directorship for the Protestant Service at JBAB Chapel.

Provide musical directorship at a minimum of one rehearsal and one worship service (Sunday) each week.

Follow the direction of the assigned chaplain and under the oversight of the Joint Base Senior Chaplain or designee.

Lead the praise team and congregation in worship and vocally lead them as required by the assigned chaplain.

Music Director must be able to operate in and be fully conversant in the religiously pluralistic environment of military chaplaincy.

Coordinate all support requirements with the assigned chaplain or their designated representative.

Music Director shall meet weekly (or as needed) with the assigned chaplain to discuss worship program direction and priorities.

Assist the assigned chaplain or their designated representative in developing the following in regard to Music Director Programs as appropriate: annual calendar of events, Chapel Tithes and Offerings Fund budget, Appropriated Fund budget, and core volunteer training requirements.

Return all government-owned music scores and equipment obtained in the performance of the required duties following the last service provided under the contract.

Not engage in the unauthorized duplication of copyrighted materials by photocopying or any other means that would expose the government to liability for penalties under existing or future copyright laws.

DUTY HOURS: Music Director shall be required to be present for the following:

Music Director shall be required to be present for all rehearsals, services, and special events. Requirements will vary per season/month and will be established by the assigned chaplain. A “unit” is the basis for compensation. A unit is an occurrence of a serviceor rehearsal. Units are provided for weekly rehearsals, services, and additional special services. Special services include, but are not limitedto, funerals, memorials, and special programs. The Candidate will work a minimum of three and not to exceed twelve hours per week (mandatory performance on Sunday). Weekly in-office work schedule, if needed, will be negotiated with the assigned chaplain ensure program coordination to include weekends. Each unit will be verified by the project manager. Any additional service or rehearsal “units” must be pre-approved by lead Protestant Chaplain/Joint Base Senior Chaplain/or designee. Compensation will be paid when the following unitsoccur, after the unit is performed/provided.

Sunday worship services (two/week) (64)

Song selection/Slide preparation/Admin (three/week) (90)

Volunteer Recruitment/Training (three/week and verified by assigned Chaplain) (90)

Any additional special service or rehearsal “units.” (30)

evaluation will be based upon the ability to play/sing three selections from the following styles of music. Instruments (piano/keyboard) and microphone will be provided by the 11 WG chapel. The song sheets will be available at the time of audition.
Gospel “Soon and Very Soon”
Traditional “Amazing Grace”
Contemporary “Goodness of God”
Each judge will not be allowed to see the auditionee during the performance to remove bias.
The panel will rate based on the following performance.
Ability to sing on key.
Ability to read and play music from the song sheet provided to them on the piano.
