Opportunity: Progressive Die Designer

Seastrom Manufacturing is looking for an experienced and highly-motivated individual with a background in mechanical engineering to join its growing team. The Progressive Die Designer will design simple and complex progressive and compound dies, provide technical support for the Die Makers, Quality department, and CNC departments. Research and support product improvements through die design.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Perform strip layout for all products (new and old).
  • Use various Computer Aided Design (CAD) programs.
  • Communicate with customers for product clarification and improvement.
  • Maintain continuity within all designs.
  • Standardize set-ups and increase running speeds.
  • Create and help maintain maintenance programs on all dies.
  • Continue to use sensors to help increase production.
  • Engineer and present new solutions that show creative and out-of-the-box thinking.
  • Quote jobs.
  • Provide tech support to help with customer designs.
  • Make templates.
  • Train entry level die designers.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Must be at least 18 years old.
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and experience .
  • Die maker apprenticeship and/or journeyman license a plus.
  • Proficient in reading, writing, and speaking the English language with comprehension skills sufficient to understand safety standards and job performance expectations.
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals in addition to practical application of trigonometry, geometry, calculus, and physics. The ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.
  • Ability to interpret instructions which may be furnished in written, oral, diagram or schedule form.
  • Ability to stand for extended periods of time. Some sitting may be required.
  • Able to frequently lift and/or move up to 10 pounds, and lift and/or move 60 pounds on occasion.
  • Maintain specific vision abilities, including close vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.
  • Capable of functioning in an environment that is regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts, oils, or other cutting fluids.
  • Ability to tolerate and work productively in an environment with a quite-to-loud noise level.
