Job Summary:
Research Services Program Managers perform research related functions which may include patient- oriented research or research conducted with human subjects. Patient-oriented research includes mechanisms of human disease, therapeutic interventions, clinical trials, or development of new technologies. Clinical Science Program Managers may also assist with epidemiologic and behavioral studies and/or outcomes research and health services research. Clinical Science Program Managers independently manage clinical research programs, perform clinical research project management functions and supervise clinical research teams of 2 or more FTE. Some Assignments will not move beyond this level.
Key Responsibilities:
- Evaluate study workload and resource needs and ensures equitable workload among team with appropriate backup coverage
- Also works as senior research coordinator as the primary contact any multiple studies which includes regulatory, consenting, being present in the Operating Room to collect data and specimens, and involved in all agreements and funding.
- Sole Local Coordinator on multiple prospective/enrolling studies for over 3 years (through 2020) without backup coverage. This includes managing all HCRN consortium studies (FTE in itself at other sites) and being the Project Manager for the Chief’s ATPC national consortium with 19 sites. Currently acts as the only NSGY research FTE position covering 7 surgeons.
- Hire temporary help when needed to address deadlines and staff shortages
- Coordinate the hiring process of permanent research personnel with final approval of Chief of NSGY
- Review and sign off on all NSGY studies (as Research Manager Role) in Oncore for study start up process.
- Develop training materials for research coordinators through the onboarding process
- Work with PI/leadership to improve efficiency and resource utilization
- Supervise a team of 2.5 FTE clinical research coordinators in addition to onboard all Chief of NSGY lab personnel/medical students/residents for participation in research projects.
- Responsible for full onboarding all new research personnel through UCD and CHCO and ensuring they are up to date on internal training and requirements
- Work closely with the CHCO manager to ensure all institutional requirements are upheld by the University research staff
- Coordinate day-to-day duties of the clinical trial process on multiple studies which includes assessing patients for protocol eligibility criteria, obtaining informed consent and completing patient study visits in clinic (acts as Working Manager whereas on the CHCO side, managers do not run studies in addition to managing)
- Ensure integrity and accuracy of data collection, source documentation, query resolution and CRF completion
- Assist investigators as well as fellows/residents on NSGY studies including study and protocol design, regulatory submission, data collection and manuscript preparation
- Assist with grant preparation and submission on multiple grants, both National Institute of Health (NIH) and private. Work closely with the PreAward Grant specialist to support the Chief of NSGY in ongoing grant submissions throughout the year. **The only research coordinator that performs this service within the adult/peds NSGY department according to PreAward service.
- Act as liaison between finance, lab, investigator and sponsor on research grants for tracking supplies, patient payments and monitoring research grant accounts for appropriate allocation of funding
- Work closely with Chief of NSGY and Pre and Post Award teams in grant submission process, and reviews all submission documents and annual reports to ensure timely submission and accuracy
- Act as the liaison between the Chief of NSGY and Investigators and research personnel
- Perform all Research Administration duties including assisting with financial management for grants, onboarding both Hankinson lab/clinical team members, managing contract and research agreement process
- Onboard, train and act as resource for junior research team members as well as a resource for ATPC/HCRN consortium members and medical students
- Coordinate site qualification, initiation and close-out visits, attends Coordinator and Investigator meetings and schedules and assists in monitoring visits
- Provide ongoing opportunities for learning and development to junior team members
- Initiated a change in department leadership in order to build a team with structure, communication, unity and coverage when one was needed
- Develop/review/approve study budgets and work with UCD/CHCO financial contacts as well as Sponsors to successfully carry out clinical trial
- Responsible for going into the OR for all CSF diversion cases over a 3 year period to improve QI infection protocol adherence and track OR trends for HCRN (no backup)
- Develop relationships with investigators, research sponsors and collaborating departments for a multi-faceted research program involving both the laboratory and clinical side to improve processes and resources to support investigators

Qualifications:
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in any field
- A combination of education and related technical/paraprofessional experience may be substituted for the bachelor’s degree on a year for year basis
- Four (4) years clinical research or related experience
Applicants must meet minimum qualifications at the time of hire.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Masters degree in science or health related field
- Five (5) years clinical research or related experience
- Prior experience providing program and/or -project management duties in a clinical research setting
- Experience with electronic data capture systems (e.g. EMR or EHR and data management systems)
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Strong project management skills and experience within a complex and diverse environment
- Advanced knowledge and understanding of federal regulations and Good Clinical Practice (GCP)
- Demonstration of strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Ability to communicate effectively, both in writing and orally
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees at all levels throughout the institution

Anticipated Pay Range:
The starting salary range (or hiring range) for this position has been established as $66,472-$90,000.
The above hiring range represents the University’s good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting. This position may be eligible for overtime compensation depending on the level.
